SOURCE: Our gas oven will heat

The first thing you need to do is check the temperature sensor, which should be 1100 ohms at room temperature (plus or minus 5%). If it is accurate, you probably need to fix the control board. You can send in your board to appliancetimers.com for repair.

Left front range top burner temerture control issues

Good Morning Friend,

I understand that you are having trouble with the left front burner on your Frigidaire range, model# FEF355. I see that the burner heats up to a glowing red hot temperature, no matter what you set the dial to. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your homes circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes.

When power is restored, the first thing you will need to do is set the clock. You will do this by pressing the "Clock" button, then within 5 seconds press and hold the up or down arrows until the correct time of day appears.

Once you have set the time, turn on the left front burner, on the lowest setting. If the burner is still glowing red hot, I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your range and determine what is causing the burner to glow red hot on all settings. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-
WP

My 30 year old Whirlpool electric stove burners are heating inconsistently, especially the right front. If turned on medium for a while, it will turn red hot. It happens even faster when another burner...

Each burner has its own switch. I suspect your switch on that burner is bad or going bad. Conracts probably burring up from the constant arcing associated with closing and opening. Here is how it works:

The left front burner will turn on for a few seconds then turn off then back on and off. It would not heat the pan on it. This is a glass top range. Are there any tests that I can do to find the problem?...

If the rest of the hotplate elements are working correctly and you are performing the same tests with all of them then you have a problem. We know that the hotplate works. When hotplates are faulty they don't turn on and off, they just don't work. This would generally be a hotplate controller problem. It sounds as if the controller is faulty and requires replacing. If you are handy you can switch the suspect hotplate controller with a good one and see what happens. This will confirm our suspicions.

Dual top burner will only heat up on high.It is only the large ring burner GE JBP79

Does it go straight to full heat even though it is on the low setting. If this is the case the hotplate controller is faulty and requires replacement.

How do I season the griddle that came with my new gas stove?

This is taken verbatim from page 11 of my Frigidaire Gallery range:
"Seasoning, using and caring for the griddle Before first use: -Wash griddle in hot soapy water. Rinse and dry completely. -Apply a thin coat of vegetable oil to the entire surface (front and back of griddle). -Preheat your oven to 350*F. Place the griddle on the upper rack in your oven. -Bake griddle for 1 hour at 350*F, then turn oven OFF and let cool before removing. -The surface may have a tacky feel to it from the seasoning process. If desired, wash the griddle in hot soapy water, rinse well, and dry completely.
Using the griddle: Remove the center burner grate and carefully replace with the griddle (some models). Preheat the griddle for 5 minutes on medium to medium low setting. Slow preheat ensures even heat distribution during the cooking process. DO NOT preheat the griddle on HI setting. Preheating on HI may warp the griddle and prevent even heat distribution.
After each use: -To prevent rusting, store in a dry place and keep uncovered. -After each use, clean with a stiff brush and hot water only. -Do not clean griddle in the dishwasher. -Dry immediately and apply a light coating of vegetable oil to griddle before storing.

The burners are too hot. Even when set to 'lo' setting food over cooks or water boils. Can the burners be calibrated to provide an actual 'lo' setting. Food cooked on 'lo' sticks to pan and liquids...

Your range uses what is commonly refered to as infinite heat switches. Without getting into too much of the mechanics of how they opperate, basically they cycle the burner on (at full power) for a very short time at warm or lower settings,(and longer off periods), at medium type settings, on / off might be more like 50 /50, and at high, they are on 100% of the time. There is no calibration for these. Sometimes, the electrical contacts inside arch and make poor contact, or weld themselves together, giving high heat at all settings. The only way to fix this problem is to replace the individual switches, which are the part the the knobs push onto.
