Question about Washing Machines

3 Answers

I have an Admiral 6005 washing machine. Model A6738-010. S/N 021380 Recently it stopped spinning on the spin cycle. The bowl appears to go round when filling with water. The clothes collect on one side and tightly around the agitator. The washing is now very heavy & very wet.

I'll try unplugging it. All the other functions of the timer are good. The load only shifts on the spin cycle. Is it possible a solinoid that engages the bowl is not functioning properly?

    HI,

IF it doesn't spin then check these:

    • Test the lid
      switch

    • Test the timer control

    • Test the centrifugal switch

    • Test the water
      level switch

    • Inspect the motor
      coupler

    • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)

    • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)

    • Test the motor

    • Inspect the pulley

    • Test the transmission

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Based on your description, either a drain problem or motor problem:

  • check the drain area, clean the filter, sump/bowl, impeller, drain pump, valve and drain hose. An easy/doable but messy.;
  • the speed of the motor is not sufficient to evenly distribute the load. Components to check would be the starting capacitor and/or the windings of the motor.
The above requires a bit of familiarity with electrical components & circuitry as well as use of a DVM. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Additionally, you could try to unplug the unit for an extended period of time to revert to factory defaults.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

Appreciate the postback. For some reason Admiral 6005 and A6738 does not show in any washing machine database, could you pls confirm exact model number. Incidentally, normally there is a tech sheet somewhere in the machine itself, either at any of the panels/covers (such as the kick panel) or in under the control panel cover. The tech sheet also includes a wiring diagram and an exploded parts diagram.

Admiral washer machine tub appears loose and unattached in rrear

First of all is your machine working or not?
If it is working and it's a front loading machine. The machine drum is hanging inside the machine using strong springs that helps it to reduce vibrations during washing and spin cycle.
When machine goes into spin(dry cycle), it usually shakes a little.
