I just reformatted my computer yesterday. This cannon scanner was working very well as of yesterday. But, after I reinstalled the software to the new fformatted computer (WindowXP), I click the capture 3.0 icon, then go to Scan, then choose "page to file", there is no device found, it said:cannot locate the device, check cable and power. The power and cable are connected very well. Can you tell me which step I am missing when I reinstalled the software? I installed the capture perfection, Driver, Jobtool, it is all automatic installed when I click the "setup".

The first thing to try: a new USB cable and a different port. (If you are using a hub, try directly connecting to the computer). What does the device manager say about the scanner? (In Windows, access from the Control Panel > Hardware. Exact directions depend on the OS version.)
Check the transport lock on the bottom of the scanner - do not put the scanner on its side when you check the lock.
Make sure the scanner was on and had already warmed up (stopped blinking) before you tried to start the scanner software (either by the buttons or from the scanner). You may want to reboot the computer (in case the computer thinks one program has locked access to the scanner).
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (scanners require two-way communication with the computer and a bad cable will stop the scan even when the computer sees the scanner and the software installed without a problem.)
The only way you're going to know if it's the scanner or the driver for sure is to install it on say an XP machine and see what results you get. If it's still dark, it's the scanner, if not, it's the driver.
to check the page count install the driver and setup the scanner as a "scanner device" on your computer. Once you have done that , go to the "control panel" than "scanners and printers". Right-click on the device that says "Cannon DR-9080C" and select "properties". The device information will appear, than select the "counter" tab on the information box; the scan count will be listed.
