Problem for Sharp Wizard OZ-730

I am having difficulty importing an address database to Outlook

By Green1 - usenet poster

I have a SHARP WIZARD OZ 730, and I want to import its address database to
Outlook Contacts. The SHARP uses Daytimer Software. The export process seems
to work fine, but when I go to the step to import to Contacts, I get an error
message that says the Separated Values (DOS) translator is unable to
recognize the file (the exported Daytimer address database) that I am trying
to import. I am using Outlook 2002. Does anyone know anything about whether
there is a different translator in 2003 than there is in 2002 or about why I
am having difficulty importing from the Daytimer Software through the Comma
Separted Values (DOS) translator in Outlook 2002?

-   I am trying to export my data from the DaytimerSharp wizzard 0z-730 to Microsoft outlook 2007. I am getting the error message that I do not have the rights to execute command? I have reinstalled the software on my new computer and restored the data and the day timer works great. Now I need to move the data to Outlook 2007. Any ideas?-   Guest

I'm having the same problem and dont have the disks. My software was already
loaded when I bought the PC and my kids ruined the disks (long story).
Anyway I can download the files or is there any other way to export contacts
to csv without the files?

Thanks, Karl. I really do appreciate your confidence in my sanity. I*'ve
been fooling with this problem for so long, I could probably have manually
transferred the data a few times over, but now I'll hit Sharp one more time
tomorrow. They can't seem to see my point that the file seems empty. Eileen

I am having a similar problem. I have managed to export my tungston contacts list into an excel file and save it as a csv file. However, outlook refuses to recognise the csv file. How can outlook be persuaded to do so?

If I understand what you're saying, then the file that DayTimer is creating
is being created as a zero-length file. If that's the case - then the issue
absolutely belongs to Sharp/Daytimer and has nothing to do with Outlook.
You're right - there is no data there to import so doesn't much matter what
version of Outlook your using (and we haven't seen differences in the CSV
translators for O'2K thru O'2K3 - leastwise not for anything we've tried to
date).

Hi, Karl:

Thanks for your helpful suggestions. I will try all to see what happens. One
thing I seem to notice is that the exporting from the Daytimer software seems
to work well, but when I go check the file I have exported as a csv, it is on
my hard drive as a file but seems not to have the data in it. In fact, it
comes up as a "0". I've talked with Sharp about this, but they can only
suggest that perhaps the translator in 2002 is not the same as in 2003 on
which the transfer process was tested. I think the Daytimer is not fully
exporting the data to the created file. Then, the translator could be giving
the error message because it just isn't finding data to translate. Eileen

Have you tried using CSV Windows translator? If that doesn't work

Since not all CSV files are created equally - one quick thing to try is
opening the CSV file in MS Excel and if it works - just save it again. Use
that file to import (CSV Windows) into Outlook.

Failing the above - another thing to check is what "text qualifier" (the
character that starts/ends each field, i.e. double quote, single quote) is
used in the CSV file and if you have MS Access - import the file using the
correct "text qualifier". When done just simply import the Access file (or
export it again as a CSV file). Hopefully the above will work and you won't
have to go thru all this aggravation.
