Hello,
what operating system did you replace XP 32bit, XP 64bit? Was the version of Vista you used the 32bit or the 64bit. You may need to go to HP.Com and look for replacement drivers for the DVD. You can also use the windows update to obtain correct drivers for the DVD if they have tested them already. Another option is to go to the manufacturer of the DVD device and see what they list for the driver. Just remember there is a big differance between the 32bit and 64bit drivers. Read on the Vista system you installed and see what level was installed in your system. Regards, rcampsr

Dvd cd rom [ code 10 ] does not work


The Code 10 error code is generated when Device Manager has insufficient information or the error that is bubbled up by the device drivers is not recognized by Device Manager. Additionally, this error may occur when one of the drivers that the device needs does not start. If many drivers are being used by a particular device, it can be difficult to determine the one that failed.

The Code 10 error resembles the following: This device cannot start. (Code 10) The most common resolution is to update the drivers that are associated with the failing device. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab.
  2. Click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard.
  3. Follow the instructions to update the driver.
Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or the driver files may still be installed from the last time that you set up the device. After system recovery to factory image everything works like new but..computer doesn't see DVD-RAM i did install driver from HP support site install correctly still doesn't work--device manager shows...


Remove it from device manager by right clicking it and selecting uninstall, reboot and let windows auto detect it again, reload your drivers, visit the manufacturers website for the correct drivers.

I don't know if you are using a cd from HP whith the windows xp software on it, because I done something like that before and didn't work, you have to find a cd from hp with windows hp software intallation on it otherwise you will have problems, after the installation you can search for the update drivers from hp.com.

1. if you choose windows vista instead of xp you can solve this issue. the drivers are available for vista only. visit www.hp.com for further proceedings. else 2. when you use xp the drivers must be updated from device manager. if You give the installed location of the specific drivers you can easily get what u need.....
