Question about MSI K8MM-V Motherboard

2 Answers

MSIK8Tneo MB Early Chipset initialization comes on on the D-link. I replaced the the Pwr supply as it was bad but still get same issue. Previously I formatted the dive and reloaded XP...My memory is fine as I tested both modules. This is a 754 socket with AMD 3700+ CPU...Machine will boot, post and windows will come up then the machine will reboot and windos won't come up because it's hung at Early chipset inilization. I wanted to reformate the drive but when I boot from the CD I get an error code and the machine crashed. Didn't write down the error code and I am running some diagnostic s/w now. Do you think the board is bad? I also loaded the MB drives after Win XP was loaded. this loaded the ethernet drivers so I could get to the internet i want motherboard drivers beouse i dont have a motherboard cd

Bad PSUs can damage a motherboard, I hope this isn't the case with your system...

    * what exactly did you replace the old PSU with?
    * PSU specs?
    * was it new?
    * do the capacitors (cans) on you board look okay OR are the bloated/mis-shappen?
    * does the system power ON easily after it's been sitting in a crashed state?

Your issue may very well be a RAM problem. I use MSI boards for most of my built computers and I have run into this 1 time. Try another stick of ram or if you have more than one in the system use just one at a time and see what happens. Also check to see if you have any Capacitors that are failing. You can tell this by making sure that all the little tops are flat not bulged. If you see any of them bulged you can replace it if you know how to solder but normally this is a temporary fix the board at that time is failing and needs to be replaced. After researching more about this particular board it would appear that the board is picky about its RAM. The driver download page for this board series is located here:

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=k8t+neo

This is a page with links to specific boards in that series since I didnt know your EXACT model. Click the link to your exact model and then click the Drivers link on your boards page and you will find the drivers you asked for.

Also you may consider flashing the BIOS. Be careful though. If it fails your board will be dead. Follow the instructions for your board to the letter and you shouldnt have any problems.

There is also a driver utility that you can download from MSI that helps you automatically get your drivers and Bios updates.

Hope this helps...

Computer powers on, but does not boot on an emachines t3624. replaced the power supply

If the fans come on and BIOS does not post (initial screen upon power up), you likely have a mainboard or CPU issue. If a chip fan failed, or your box overheated, your CPU could be fried. Or possibly something on your motherboard got taken out due to lightning, a faulty power supply, etc. If this is the case, you're in bad shape as you're probably dead in the water and need a new MB/CPU.

If you are hearing any beeps upon power up, another hardware device such as memory or a video card (even a defective drive) could be the culprit. If you can try swapping out components to find the one that's causing the failure, and replace that component.

My motherboard have four leds in red light, d0 dled2,dled3 and don`t start up

Hi ntamayo,

Here is the description of what the four leds indicate:

1d08ad7.gifEarly Chipset Initialization

14ff182.gifMemory Detection Test
- Testing onboard memory size. The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly

1719312.gifDecompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting

1cab634.gifInitializing Keyboard Controller

3b994fe.gifTesting VGA BIOS
- This will start writing VGA sign-on message to the screen

2b36bf2.gifProcessor Initialization
- This will show information regarding the processor (like brand name, system bus, etc...)

f53faac.gifTesting RTC (Real Time Clock)

9ec1db5.gifInitializing Video Interface
- This will start detecting CPU clock, checking type of video onboard. Then, detect and initialize the video adapter

4f7c881.gifBIOS Sign On
- This will start showing information about logo, processor brand name, etc

6a25253.gifTesting Base and Extended Memory
- Testing base memory from 240K to 640K and extended memory above 1MB using various patterns

- This will initializing Floppy Drive and controller

3afd28f.gifBoot Attempt
- This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h

When your motherboard is stuck on any of these signals, that's a clue that something is wrong with that particular device on the board. Replace it and try again.

Good Luck

And don't forget to leave a rating,

Thanks

System wont power on unless mb power connector on mb is reset

by mb pwr connector do you mean the swich on the pc case that you press to turn it on or do you mean the large block connector form the power supply ?

If you mean the case switch then you have a faulty one that is sendinga constant signal and locking up the power supply

Same problem - green "power" LED on the MB but no activity

Hello,

This series of machines is known for this issue. You can get a replacement motherboard for your pc from a website at www.barebonekit.com they boards run from $35 to about $65 plus shipping. This is much cheaper than you can get them most other places. We order from them on a regular basis and have had no problems. I hope this helps, if so please rate the solution.

Thanks,
Buddy

Gateway 200arc motherboard problem

If there are two wires running from the power button on your case to the motherboard, take them off and try jumpering those two terminals with a jumper or something that will make contact for just a second and them take back off. Your power button may have fried along with the power supply.

Try looking at the main board very near the flyback and you should see 3 fuse links (they look like hard capacitors) one of them is probably open causing lack or power to the convergence board by way of the ribbon seated close to the vertical output IC
