You need to require activation code from the online store you bought the software from. If they didn't provide you with the activation code, that surely is a breach of contract.

May be your converter is first trying to locate some specific version of Acrobat Reader and then do the conversion and Acrobat 6 might not be the required version.

If you did a recovery of your computer, it is likely that your computer changed the registry to a state before you installed Acrobat. Reinstalling Acrobat should fix that issue because it will put the right registry keys back in place..

SORRY, BUT THE ANSWER IS YOU DON'T. IT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS-UPGRADE, UPGRADE TO AN EXISTING ADOBE ACROBAT PROGRAM. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS PROGRAM, THE UPGRADE IS WORTHLESS. YOU CAN PROBABLY SELL IT ON EBAY.

I would suggest removing and re-installing Acrobat 6.0 (if that is what you're using). It may have gotten corrupted by another piece of software. If the problem persists, you may have to remove software or utilities you've added since the original program worked right until your system doesn't interfere with Adobe Acrobat's processes.
