I have a Sharp (Mobilon in USA) 4500 HPC purchased in Australia. On average, about once in five times it is turned on, it locks up with a white screen and I have to reset it before I can use it.
It does not lose any data, it is just annoying. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
I have discovered that the white screen of death can be overcome by holding down Ctrl when turning on.
Turn off using the off button.

My HC 4600 does not have this problem...well, instead, it just simply RESET and say bye bye to my docs. It happens sometimes if ac power is supplied while the HPC turning on.
In Hong Kong, some Sharp HPC user did face your problem. I heard that this may be caused by the power management of the machine. Make sure you always have enough batteries could do some help.

I have the same problem with my Australian Sharp 4500A. I also found that, by pressing the off key firmer when turning off, less chance of freezing the screen when turned on. However, sometimes it still does. Do not know why and interested to hear from you later if you solve the problem.
I have the service pack installed. It does not solve the problem.

I had the "white screen of death" with my 4500. It locked up tighter than a drum, could not reset it. Sent it back to Sharp for a new screen.
