Question about Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 Webcam

1 Answer

Recently bought the VX-1000. It shows up great on the camera in "My Computer" but anything else it does not get recognized. In fact even on the "my computer" it shows up as camera #3. I only have 1 camera installed and all other USB devices have been pulled. Not sure what is going on but how do I eliminate the other 2 cameras that are showing up. Tried renaming the "Microsoft VX-1000 #3" to just Microsoft VX-1000" but was told that that camera was in use. ???? Nothing else is working and I downloaded the latest driver just today .. Feb.20/08, ver 2.something. I went to the program folder but could not find any reference to any other camera (namely #1 or #2) Any help much appreciated. ...Steve

I have the same model. I enjoyed some 'opportunities' getting it installed and working properly. Start by disconnecting the camera. Since you have downloaded the latest version of the software, uninstall the existing software. Open Device Manager. I image that is where you are seeing the multiple cameras. Right click on each camera and uninstall it. The computer should now be free of cameras and software. Turn the computer off and leave it off for at least 30 seconds. Restart the computer and let it start-up completely. Now install the new software. At the end of the installation you will be prompted to connect the camera and do some configuration.

I found it worked better for me to use a different microphone, but that's optional.

Good luck, and please let me know how it works out for you!

VX-1000 problems

Start- right click my computer - properties - hardware - device manager. Click on the + signs to expand links, find your camera, is there any question or exclamation marks showing, is so, right click & see what it says.
If nothing shows up as wrong, un-install your cam in device manager, restart your computer,(cam unplugged) when up & running, plug your cam back in & system will see it as new device & install it.
Hope this helps your issue.
Have a nice day.

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
