Sounds like your fuel pump might be giving you a hard time I would start there on testing

Fuel delivery problem, not enough fuel on acceleration could cause backfires. Many things cause backfires, mechanical and electronic. I need more info to give a better diagnosis. Did the problem happen all of a sudden or has the vehicle been running crappy for awhile.

check the vacuum hose to the carbies There is a hose that controls the plungers in the carbies

Go to auto parts store get fuel pressure gauge test fuel pressure ,could be that your fuel pump is on its way out.you need to have at least 50 psi. Check fuel filter also.

i put a new distrubter in and set the timing it saiad top dead was no4.but it still backfires
