Question about Acer Aspire 9500 Notebook

1 Answer

Acer Aspire 9500 Temporaily hangs and won't boot

The following error is generated in System under Event Viewer:

Source: Atapi
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

The laptop randomly hangs for a minute or so then comes back. Sometimes during startup the BIOS can't find the boot device and is asking me to select a new one. Restarting it a few times will finally get it to boot. The HD appears to be fine. Is this likely an ATA controller? If so does anyone know if the ATA controller can be replaced or is it part of the mainboard? Thanks!

Why is my acer aspire shutting down

If you're running Windows go into Control Panel and check Event Viewer. Look under Windows, System, and look at any Warnings (Yellow triangles with exclamation marks) If you're seeing error codes you can look those up; if "unexpected shutdown" shows up a lot your laptop could be overheating or it may be a power issue.

How to fix error 17 by starting windows xp at acer aspire zg5

Error 17 sounds like a grub bootloader problem, IE: your Acer disk didn't perhaps reload the boot code for Windows, or remove grub entirely.

http://www.ubuntu.com/download
Ubuntu 10.10 Latest Version
which can repair what windows has ruined and is unable to fix fix the problem
either burn it to a disk as an iso and install

you might have burn it to an iso first then boot from the cd rom to install ubuntu or you might just try to install ubuntu directly from the download if it does not install you might save it to a folder then burn it as an isohttp://download.cnet.com/active-iso-burner/3000-2646_4-10602452.html
once Ubuntu has been installed on your computer has corrected the fault you will be able to reinstall windows
or keep ubuntu and install windows next door to it

you can have a dual boot computer with both windows and ubuntu linux you will need to partition your hard drive to do this
is a free partition program.
I have actually used this process to fix my computer with similiar problems and it works.

Please check this list What beet you receive? Its better that you could post the BIOS model.
Check this link
You can understand what kinda error you have in your configurations. If you see this on the boot time (after the POST* has run) that might be a problem with a hardware device. Such as a removable drive (atapi device - cd rom drive) or connectors.
Boot the machine and when you are in Windows: Start -> Run (or win key + r together) and type this in and enter. Eventvwr.msc In the event viewer window navigate to System. Check for Red X marks (errors) and Yellow ! marks (warnings). You will be able to find the problem in their as well. That is not guaranteed but there is a good chance of the message being logged by the Event Viewer. (Remember the time when you booted it. Log is sorted using time.)
We are ready to assist you further.
If you are able to solve the issue with the help of the post please rate the answer with a testimonial. Thanks for contacting Fixya!

My leptop acer 4720zg physical dumping error

1) Examine the “System” and “Application” logs in Event Viewer for other recent errors that might give further clues. To do this, launch > Eventvwr.msc from a Run box; or open “Administrative Tools” in the Control Panel then launch Event Viewer.

2) If you’ve recently added new hardware, remove it and retest.

3) Run hardware diagnostics supplied by the manufacturer.

4) Make sure device drivers and system BIOS are up-to-date.

5) However, if you’ve installed new drivers just before the problem appeared, try rolling them back to the older ones.
6) Open the box and make sure all hardware is correctly installed, well seated, and solidly connected.

7)Confirm that all of your hardware is on the Hardware Compatibility List.

8)Check for viruses.

9)Investigate recently added software.

10)Examine (and try disabling) BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

Acer Aspire 4720z WIndows Vista- crashes every day

there is a programme on the pc that is not compatable with vista, this is called "hanging" this is a common problem with vista as it is not compatable with certain programmes and hardware, you need to find the software that is causing the hang, go to the event viewer by right clicking on "my computer" and select "manage" select event viewer and the software, that will tell you which programme is causing the hang/freeze and uninstall it
