I try rebooting and get an ntdlr missing ctrl alt del to restart error

You need to reinstall the os. you might learn that copying file will be an option but thats not a good option. after NTLDR, tehre are 7 other files you may need to copy. so simply and easiest way is to reisntall the os.

step 1. You can press <Alt+F10> or the Empowering Key to launch in a Windows environment, or press <Alt+F10> during boot up. For the Veriton desktop series, you can also press the hardware reset button at any time. For the Aspire or AcerPower desktop series, an Acer eRecovery Management icon can be found on the desktop screen.
If this fails.

step 2

Back up all data on your computer before reinstalling. Insert the Windows XP disk and restart your computer.

Press any key when prompted to begin running the disk.

Press F8 to agree to the terms of service.

Choose the partition you want to reinstall Windows XP on. This is usually "C:" for most users.

Choose the type of format. You can choose either "Quick" or "Full" for NTFS systems. A quick format only takes a few minutes less than the full format.

Wait for the format to complete. The Windows XP installation wizard will begin. You will be asked to choose your time zone, computer name, and to input any network information. Otherwise, the reinstall will run by itself.

Warning!

The prompts during the reinstall will occur 10 to 15 minutes after the wizard begins. Use the original product key or the Windows XP installation will not activate. You will need to call Microsoft if your product does not activate. The number is listed on the activation window. This process will cause data loss.

As long as it is a genuine key, you will need to use the support options to call them and have it activated over the phone.

After reinstalling my sound did not effect.

Re-Install the drivers from the system disk that came with your computer. If no disk, go to the website and download the drivers for your model computer.

A little porblem

By the sounds of it you have a illegal copy of windows or you could have the Original Windows XP disc but the product key has been activated already, therefore Microsoft think that you have an illegal key for you copy of XP. My advice would be to visit the Microsoft website and purchase a valid key, or if you have reinstalled Windows you may have to ring them up and explain that you reinstalled XP and used the same product key that is on your computer and the computer thinks that it is fake and they will give you a new one over the phone.

Trying to reinstall windows xp and not letting me

do you have a XP installation disc? do you have a valid product number? (sometimes the product number is located on a sticker, depends if you brought the PC ready made)

Lastly how many times have you reinstalled the OS? if you have a OEM product code I think the limit of reinstalling the OS is 5 times, after then you have to speak to MS. although you have to have to reach the activate windows screen before this becomes an issue.

Help!

There is a possibility that you have not installed the drivers for the sound device.

Kindly follow this procedure to determine if the drivers are installed.

1) Click on the start button,
2) Click on control panel.
3) Click on sound and audio devices.
4) In the volume tab, check if the volume slider is active. Check also if the check box "Place volume icon on the taskbar" is active.
5) If none of these are active, then the drivers are not installed and you need to put in the cd drive a motherboard cd that you purchased with your computer and run setup again. NOTE: the motherboard cd is not the same as the windows xp cd that you bought.
6) If these are active, then check if the volume is muted and that the right volume level is set.

Good luck.

You can activate it again I believe. I think you can completely reformat your drive up to four times per year and reactivate without telephoning microsoft.
