Question about Dell Dimension 2350 PC Desktop

Dell dimension 2350 pc turns off and on repeatedly

I have a dell dimension 2350, pc. It is approx. 8 years old and up until two weeks ago, always ran fine. Recently at start up after being shut down longer then an hour, the fan that blows into the pc started sounding like maybe barrings were going bad, like a baseball card in spokes, kind of sound...after running for about ten minutes, the sound would stop. And then two weeks ago, in the middle of surfing the internet, the computer just completely shut down. When I tried to start it again, it would boot up to the desktop, and the shut down again. I let it sit for about an hour, and tried again, and this time it wouldn't even turn on. It just kept turning on and off, repeatedly, never reaching the desktop screen.
I have put in a brand new power supply, exchanged hard drives, and changed the bracket for the heatsink.....
Nothing worked....
Any suggestions on what this problem might be, and HOW DO I FIX IT???
Thanks

why get rid of it if it still work(ED) fine...it JUST now gave me my first problem!

I have not changed out the fan as of yet because it still works, it just makes a funny, loud sound when I turn the comp on. Than fan is the next thing on the list to replace, but for some reason I don't think that will fix this problem.

  • swindell_mom Feb 21, 2009

Yes, this PC does have a green plastic cover to the fan

I cleaned out all the dust, but it still won't turn on. I turn on the computer, and it goes to the Windows XP screen. Just before log in, it shuts off automatically, almost lke time work.

I remember in that computer that the fan that cools down the heatsink is actually in a big green plastic, have you been able to change out the fan?

Yes, mobo is short for motherboard. Kind of like modem is short for modulate and demodulate.

Dell Dimension 4400 NEVER froze (8-9 years old) until a week ago - kept freezing at start-up - - had to interrupt power SEVERAL times to restart - - tried to power up yesterday - - make a slight sound,...

You need a power supply! Go to Amazon and search for one that is the same specs as yours. Fairly easy to replace, don't use your old one anymore, it could be dangerous.

My CPU fan for my Dell Dimension 2350 has stopped turning!

Hello,

If your fan is not turning at all then it is probably dead, the bearings are likely clogged with dust and such. The PC is shutting off because of heat buildup on the processor chip. You need to do an Ebay search for your model and order a fan right away. Continued running of your sysem without a fan will kill the processor and motherboard. You should be able to get a replacement fan for your computer for less than $15 including shipping. Your local computer store may have one to fit your system but they may charge more for it. To change the fan is very easy, the left side of the case will come off your system, right under the power supply is the processor and heatsink and the fan. Disconnect the old fan and reconnect the new unit.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution

I would like to create a RAID array on my Dell Dimesion 2350

Hi there
Download the raid drivers from Dell if you need them.
You have to go into the bios settings to enable raid, look to see what raid options you have and choose them accordingly to how you want your raid configuration.

Thanks for using Fixya!!!

Want to kow how much ram I can add and where to buy it.

Hi

Dimension 2350 Series has two memory connectors and supports non-ECC PC2100 (266-MHz) DDR SDRAM memory modules. Supported memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB. The maximum (total) memory is 1GB.

Regarding where you could buy? I suppose you can check you local PC store. There is always eBay if you fancy.
