Hello,
I recently brought a MD player from Etronics.com. I have tried to record
MP3 files on several ocassions with little success. Whenever I attempt to
record, I am able to record only a few tracks. However, after a couple of
minutes, I get a message saying DISC ERR or MEM OVER. The most that I
have been able to record is 35 minutes onto a 74 min MD. I initially
thought the problem was the MD (I used Memorex 74 min discs), but I had
the same problem after using Sony's 80 min MD. What I need to know is if
there is something I am doing wrong or should I just return my MD recorder?
For the record, I have been recording using the PCLink. Would it make a
difference if I used a line cable?

responding to the remote. My first assumption was the included battery was
dead, but upon replacement still no-go. Dead. Luckily, it was still under
the Crutchfield 30-day, no hassle return policy. A brand-spanking new one
is due to be delivered tomorrow.
I've always been a believer in the quality of most Japanese electronics - of
which I've owned many over the years - but a bad one can get through, or a
component can fail. It's rare, but does happen. I have many Sony products
too, so hopefully this is an isolated case. No one likes it when it happens
to them, and I'm glad I bought this from Crutchfield rather then some other,
not-so-famous Internet vendor where there replacement policy might not have
been so liberal.

exact same problem when I bought my MZ-R70, and I used the line cable
and many different brands of discs. I could only record about 30
minutes, then get that "DISC ERR" message. I brought it back and
exchanged it, and everything was fine with the new one.

the recorder. You have already tried a different brand of media, the
most likely thing after a bad recorder.
I'd say definitely contact Etronics. They should exchange it. This is
not at all the way a normal minidisc recorder behaves. And it's rare to
get a bad one, but it does happen.
