What oil should I use for the Hobart Mixer P660?

A good standard 90 wt oil is what is ok for the gearcase. This is an old email from a hobart service tech and they recomend a special oil ordered from them. So you can decide which you want to use. "EXXON SPARTAN EP-150 (6 oz)" in the M802 planetary. Hobart part #102973-13. This IS NOT a food grade oil. If you mixer is leaking you shouldhave it serviced. Service, parts , lubricants and information canbe obtained by contacting your local Hobartoffice in Pittsburgh@ (412) 788-5380. Steve Davis Field Engineer -

I need to get the old oil out of my Hobart D300 and put new grease back into the head. How do I get the old oil out without turning the mixer upside down and put new grease in. How much grease does the...

Hello Chardanio,

I understand you are wanting to give you Hobart D300 an Oil change.
Here are the steps you need to follow:

1. Locate the oil plug on the buttom of the head next to the plantary and the bowl slides. It will be a bolt just like on you car.
2. Run you machine for a short time in order to get the oil warm so that it will flow out of the gear box.
3. Remove the bolt so that the oil will come out into a container.
4. Once drained you reinstall the bolt
5. Remove the top of the Head (2 screws)
6. You will locate a plate that has a few bolts holding it on. On that plate there is a little tin cap you can remove it with a little flat screwdriver. Becarfule not to damage it you will have to put it back in the hole after you fill the unit.
7. Install 70oz of 140 weight gear oil. It is also thick you may have to push it in to the unit then run the unit and check the oil sight. Add slowly as you do not want to over fill the unit.
8. Replace the cap. (if damaged you will need to order a 00-064871 from the Hobart Corp. at 1-800-446-2278 or another part company)
9. Replace the top of the Head and you are done.

Turn on the unit and us it as you have before.

If you have any other questions please post to this thread.

Thank you for using FixYa hope this helps.

What type of gear lube should I use for my Hobart H600 mixer?

Hi, btperduell

below is a copy of an e-mail from Horartservice.com. I searched the web forhours for the correct oil and could not find any info so I e-mailed Hobart. The Planetary is a different part from the transmission andthe sight glass on a M802 is for the oil in the transmission. The answer that Hobart gave is not an NSF oil. Ineeded the oil for the planetary section on a model M802. Even the directionssay that it is normal for a drop of oil to occasionally drip from the seal. That is where the dough hook attaches. I am in the process of researching the oil and Exxon / Mobildoes make a NSF version. I just need to find somewhere I can buy less then a 55-gallondrum. The above mixer only uses 6 ounces. Take care and stay safe Thank you Mike Hobart E-mail follows ============================================================== Mike, Hobartuses "EXXON SPARTAN EP-150 (6 oz)" in the M802 planetary. Kitchenaid mixer. Top is loose so it bounces when

Hi MJANKOW520. I?m going to assume your KA mixer is a ?Tilt-Head? mixer. You don?t say specifically. Based on your description of the symptoms you mixer exhibits, I would say that your head locking mechanism (or a component) of it is either broken, worn or loosened due to normal wear and tear and need to be readjusted (or repaired) for it to keep your mixer head stationery. The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case, try K45SSW, and select the file listed under Parts List (check to see it this matches your mixer model). This parts list manual provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the part name and numbers. Turn to page3, titled: Base and Pedestal Unit. You?ll want to focus on Illus. #9, Link & Lever Latch assembly, which locks the mixer head to the pedestal when run your mixer. Check to see if something is just loose, exceedingly worn or broken. If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install yourself. As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping. Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on other mixer components. It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself. Finally, here's a link to an excellent site that details the disassembly and replacement of a mixer's grease, which might be helpful, too. http://www.foodonthefood.com/food_on_the_food/2009/04/how-to-repair-a-kitchenaid-mixer-yourself.html If you feel this is beyond your capabilities and would be too difficult to do yourself you can take your mixer to a local small appliance repair shop and have them troubleshoot and fix your mixer. KA Customer Care can provide you with the name and phone # of the closest authorized KA repair shop in your area or you can do a Online web search, but be sure to get at least three estimates before deciding to commit to one repair shop. Good luck. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA If this solution has helped you, please rate it, thanks! - hslincoln

Hobart HZ (h600?) Raising handle is acting up

You will need to confirm the model number. An H600 or L800 have a wheel to manually turn to raise and lower the bowl. The M802 and V1401 hav a belt driven bowl lift clutch, operated by a lever. When you push the lever up or down, you are engaging a small transmission between the motor and main housing. You would need to remove the top cover and see what's happenning. It may be there is something other than the proper spiral pin joining the lift lever to the clutch input shaft, giving alot of backlash and insufficient selector movement.
