Question about Acer Aspire 1640Z Notebook
After using the labtop for an hour or two, when you shut it off it will not make it past the first couple of screens before it shuts back off. im assuming it is an overheating problem but i dont know where to start.
Clear the dust from the heatsink and fan assembly. Most laptops have vents on the bottom and outlet vents on the side or back of the laptop. The fan covers on the base are held in place by screws. The fan is usually over the CPU and is held in place with 3 or 4 spring loaded screws, remove these will allow you to remove the fan and heatsink assmbly.
If there isn't vents on the bottom of the laptop, only on the sides and back edges, then the heatsink and fan assembly is usually located under the keyboard and you need to remove the keyboard to clean/remove the dust off the heatsink/fan.
After cleaning and before re-assembly apply a thin film of heatsink compound on top of the CPU.
