The float sits on a microswitch. The shaft ot the float comes through the tub and rests on it,when the water level rises, the float lifts off the switch.

Good Luck!

Onan Marquis good 5500. After 30 seconds starting, carburetor floods out. Cleaned out carburetor, still floods. Pinched off fuel line, ran till it was starved. Released, ran till it flooded again.

Hello Johnnie Thomas,

If GASOLINE is allowed to STAND it can VARNISH things together!

Either you have a stuck (or obstructed) valve seat...
(on the business end of your float)...

or the float ITSELF no longer floats
(freely: a malformed gasket can also obstruct free motion).

In principle the float bowl acts exactly like a "TOILET TANK"

When the fuel DROPs below the IDEAL level, the float (also drops) & the pressure released from the fill valve
(typically a needle &seat)...

Most carburetor kits include a new needle valve...
precisely because it is vital to the function.

Sort of a full CARB Rebuild... try cleaning the inside of the fuel bowl with Berryman B12.

Hope this helps.

Where is the piston o ring

The term "o-ring" usually is in reference to some sort of rubber or neoprene ring that serves as a gasket or seal for something. Pistons do not have o-rings, but they do have piston rings. There are usually three or more rings on each piston. They are split rings of steel that are inserted into grooves of the outer circumference of the piston. They seal the piston to the cylinder walls and prevent the air/fuel mix from getting past the piston into the crankcase and prevents the crankcase oil from being sucked into the cylinders. With the pistons rings, the cylinders would not have sufficient compression to do their job effectively. Rings can and do break from time to time. This can cause degradation of performance or in the worst-case scenarios, serious cylinder damage.

I have a Honda cr 80 it won't start but it's popping like it won't s to

Sounds like a broken ring land on the piston , a hole in the piston or the piston skirt or skirts is or are broken. :( blown head gasket is first chk to do though it's cheap!

Won't start leaks gas

The Carburetor is flooding. The only thing that
will cause a flood problem is the float needle is not seating properly in the
needle seat. The Carburetor will need to be removed to replace the Needle and Float
assembly. After instillation the float level will need to be checked, and
adjusted if required. This is a little tricky, and would be quite lengthy to explain
hear. Short version is, the needle is a two part piece, having a spring loaded
piston located in the needle, the neoprene needle tip will need to be seated in
the seat, the spring loaded piston in the needle will need to remain uncompressed, in other words not pushed
into the needle what so ever. With the float tang just touching the top of the
uncompressed needle piston. To do this hold the carburetor housing in a
position to accomplish the the above configuration. Measure from the carburetor
housing gasket surface to the highest point of the float drum. The measurement specifications
are (14.5 to 18.5 mm) or (0.57" to 0.72" in). Make sure the float pin rotates

I replaced the cylinder and piston and rings on my 98 yz 125

You may have not tightened coil and coil wire screws enough. 2 strokers are notorious for vibrating their bolts loose. Bad earth will nullify spark. Check for clean connections on all leads from crank to coil and CDI unit. Is plug and cap 100%. Check top end gaskets if any sign of moisture on sparkplug.

The float pin may be worn and extending out past ends and jamming on carby housing. Take out and roll on flat surface and look for defects. Ensure float tab (bears on needle) is not notched from wear or bent too far. Clean seat and needle are essential, replace if suspect. Spray some carby cleaner thru fuel line entry whilst you have floatbowl off to clear any sediment or debris. (especially fuel scale or air filter foam)

My generator won't start. It's in an RV, with an external fuel tank. It kicks over but does not start.

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel Starvation - Float Bowl Carburetor
1) remove air filter assembly
*be cautious of tearing the mounting gasket. If it does tear, you HAVE to replace it. It is part of the priming system
2) remove the float bowl fastener. This is the main jet
3) carefully remove the float bowl, the rubber o-ring/gasket will not be able to be used if it is removed, you WILL have to replace it
4) using a spray 'carb cleaner'
spray up thru the center of the carburetor
spray and clean the main jet with cleaner and 'tag' wire
(tag wire is very thin, and can be used to clean the hole in the center of the main jet)
5) clean any debris from inside the bowl or carb body
6) re-install bowl and center bolt, air filter assembly

*if you need gaskets, your Honda dealer can supply. The kit is cheaper than individual gaskets, and all the parts needed to finish the above repair are in the kit.
