Try to use a LiveCD like PCLInuxOS to start your computer.

If the LiveCD works you can install the OS from it.

Sometimes you have to change the boot order in the start screen or in BIOS to use the CD or DVD drive.

My pc wont hdd recovery.....plz help

If your hdd recovery won't work it may be that you don't have a recovery partition. If it is a new computer it should have one. If not you might have to order your recovery disks from the computer manufacturer for about 25 dollars. go to their website to order, hp, dell, sony, etc...

The other option would be to reformat the hdd and reinstall the operating system and programs from scratch. The operating system cd should be bootable and allow for that provided that you setup your computer to boot from the cd in the setup screen.

I have a compaq presario and when i turn the computer on it says compaq and in the bottom left hand corner it says hit esc to enter boot setup

This sounds like it does not boot into the Operating System. The boot setup is actually a program that is stored on a Chip inside your motherboard. The program is called CMOS setup and contains all of the options such as power saving, boot order, processor temperature/speed, etc. which can be adjusted by the user. If this is all that it shows, then it means that the computer has not accessed the hard drive yet, it is still reading from that program which is on the motherboard. This chip is what has all of the settings required to start up your system, once it recognizes the hard drive it turns over the start up to the hard drive in order to load the operating system. It may not be recognizing the hard drive. You can enter the CMOS setup and in there is an option where you can see if it recognizes any installed hard drives (unfortunately, the CMOS programs vary for different motherboards, so it is hard for me to know what this option is called, but if you look around you can find it pretty simply). If it does not recognize the hard drive, a cable may be loose. Open the comptuer and make sure all Hard drive cables (usually flat and wide and grey) are connected, along with the power connector.

Note:
If it is a newer computer it may be that the cables attached to the hard drive are really skinny (they may be colored red or yellow and be about the size of a phone cable).

If it is just that your computer has no operating system installed then you should be able to insert a CD (such as XP or Vista) and install an operating system (or use a recovery disk, if you have one that was made for your computer).

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
