I recorded two programs one by timer programming and the other by one touch programming and I finalized the disc and have been trying to unfinalize the disc so I can use the disc again but I cant get to the disc menu. The title menu keeps coming up on the screen and I canot get to the disc menu when I go to setup. It will only go to General Setting or Recording.

SOURCE: HDD Corrupt

I have the XS35 and the HDD drive is curropt. Can I do the following?

1. Download the Toshiba firmware update:
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/customersupport/model_firmware.asp?model=rd-xs34

2. Burn the ISO to a CD-R disc. ImgBurn is an excellent free burner for this.
http://www.imgburn.com/

3. Insert the CD in your unit. It will auto-install the firmware. Follow onscreen instructions. Takes about 10 minutes total.

After the update, my existing HDD shows are playable again, and I can record and playback from the HDD. I bet it would be a good idea to periodically backup your shows on DVDs, and regularly reformat the HDD.

RECORDED DISCS NOT PLAYING BACK ON OTHER DEVICES

Did you finalize the disc on the DVD recorder that burned the file? Without more information on your DVD recorder, I can't give you exact directions to find the command on your unit. On my DVD/VCR, after recording, I usually finalize a disc before removing it from the recorder. On mine, I press Menu and go to Disc. I add a title (optional) and then select the Finalize option. Then accept the finalization (which makes it impossible to add more to the disc). For -RW discs, you can unfinalize and then reformat them. Write once discs are permanently stored.

What type of disc did you record to? Some other players may not recognize DVD+R or DVD-R discs or DL discs. Check the specs on the other players and try different brands/types of discs for future recording.

If you add a comment with the type of DVD recorder used to burn the problem discs, I may be able to give additional advice.

I just bougth a marantz cdr 300 cd recorder, everything seems to be working fine, but I'm not able to listen what I just recordered on any other cd player.Marantz cd 72 mr 2020.Thanks

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.
Hope this helps ;)
How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

Need to know how to finalize recorded disc so that it can be played in regular dvd player

You can record and finalize DVD+Rs one time. After you fill a DVD+R or

complete all the recordings you want on a single DVD+R, finalize it.

Otherwise, the DVD+R will play only on this Recorder. To play the Disc on

other DVD Players, you must finalize it first.

Once you finalize a DVD+R, you cannot record on it anymore or make

editing changes. Therefore, make sure the Disc is as you want it before you

finalize it.

1

Press SYSTEM MENU. Press

; to select in the top left

corner of the menu bar at the top of the TV screen.

2

Press CH-

9 repeatedly to select in the second screen,

then press

:.

3

Press CH-

9 repeatedly to select Finalize disc. Finalize disc

appears in the menu only when an unfinalized DVD+R is in the

Recorder.

4

Press OK.

"Finalizing" will appear in the menu. The process may

take a few minutes.

When finalization is complete, the Index

picture screen will reappear.

You cannot unfinalize a DVD+R, and you cannot record or

edit the DVD+R after you finalize it.

A DVD+R will play on other DVD Players only after the
Disc is finalized.

Jvc dvd/vcr player records from vcr to dvd but only plays back the dvd on the jvc DR-MV79 won't play on any other dvd players

Have you finalized the DVD in question? Unfinalized discs usually won't play in other machines. Is the DVD type compatible with the other dvd players? (Some may not handle DVD+R for example; it is an acceptable disc for the jvc DR-MV79.) Try a different brand and type of DVD. Check your other players supported discs.

To Finalize the disc, Menu > Setup > Disc Setting > Finalize (if needed set Disc Protection to Off).

I hope this helps.

DVD issue

The delete option is for a DVD-RW and will not be highlighted when there is a DVD-R. And once a DVD has been finalized you cannot un-finalize. If it is a DVD-R the disc can not be changed after being finalized. If it is a DVD-RW you can format the disc after it has been finalized. This process will erase everything on the disc but it can be used again.

I have got the disk to unfinalize but I can't delete anything. I want to start over with DVD-RW but I can't.

Unless you recorded in VR mode, then you will not be able to delete single video clips. The only option left for you is to "initialize" NOT "unfinalize" the disk, (warning: this will erase your ENTIRE disk). Once you initialize, you will have an empty disk to re-record on. VR mode allows more editing and delete options but DVDs recorded in this mode are not compatible on all dvd players.

How to finalise dvd recording

Press the menu button on your remote - go to finalize disc - follow instructions. Note that VR discs can be played with many if not most DVD-players without finalizing. In fact I have had problems finalizing and unfinalizing discs back and forth. If the disc manager displays only unfinalize disc, the disc is already finalized.

Samsung R155 Recording from VHS Issues

The reason why you are having this problem is because you haven't finalized the disc. In able for you to play that Burned DVD that you have you need to Finalized the disc. Finalizing a recordable optical disc means writing the disc's lead-in (the Table of Contents or TOC) and lead-out information (blank data that fills up the unused space at the end of the disc) so that a DVD player will know where the various tracks begin and end. Without the TOC, a conventional DVD player will not be able to read the contents of the disc. Once the disc is finalized, no more information can be written to it. Finalizing takes about two or three minutes. To finalize a DVD-RW/DVD-R: 1. Press the Menu button with the disc stopped. 2. Select Disc Manager and press Enter or the right arrow. 3. Select Disc Finalize and press Enter or the right arrow. You will be asked twice if you are sure that you want to finalize the disc. Select Yes and press Enter. Once the disc is finalized, you cannot delete entries from the record list. After being finalized, the DVD-R/DVD-RW (video mode) operates in the same manner as a DVD-Video. Recorded discs must be finalized in order to play back in non-Samsung DVD players. A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded by DAO (disk-at-once mode) in a PC cannot be unfinalized. A DVD-RW disc that has been recorded in Video Mode on a non-Samsung recorder cannot be unfinalized by a Samsung recorder. A DVD-R disc cannot be unfinalized. Note: Finalization does not apply to DVD-RAM. If you cannot finalize a DVD-R or DVD-RW disc, make sure that Disc Protection is turned off. If you are still having difficulty, you may try calling technical support of SAMSUNG. Note: Do not turn the recorder off while it is finalizing the disc. Data on the disc will be damaged if the finalization process is interrupted.
