Question about EliteGroup P4VMM2 Motherboard

1 Answer

I am so confused - completely lost sound - reinstalled original drivers cd - reformatted 5 times - getting so tired...don't know what to do. I have p4VMM2 v1.0 - have searched the sites lowest I can find is V1.3 - I used those drivers still no sound. I did not flash the bios because if this isn't the correct version I don't want to kill the PC. I see other versions all the way up to: EliteGroup P4VMM2 PCB 8.0 Sound driver Realtek AC'97 Audio Driver. Update to support new model KM266PRO-M2 ; CD 2.6VI Does this mean that version 8.0's 4 in 1, sound, vga and bios are all updates for V1.0 or is 8.0 actually a whole different version of the motherboard? Please help - I have been trying to fix for 3 wks - absolutely NO errors on the hardware page and everything is turned up, turned on and not muted...I am so desperate - nothing was installed to cause the failure - the most I can figure is that windows update to XPSP3 killed or blocked something - was unable to get it back from restores before finally reformatting.

If you are afraid to update the bios i dont blame you dont do it. If the bios updates and your processor is no longer supported becasue the amount of size of the bios chihps memory the manufacture can only put in a limited amount of info so dont update bios. If i were you i would go into control panel and remove any audio software related to your sound card. Then go into the device manager( right click my computer' then properties. then device manager and then scroll down to sounds video and game cont. and expand this . see if there is a sound card installed if so remove it as well as all software related to it. After this at top of device man. screen click on scan for changes . when it finds your sound card you will get a prompt to search everytwhere this includes the internet agree to do this ......then you might get another prompt to go online agree to this. see if this helps. oh i forgot to mentioin to make sure those speakers do work if you can plug them into another computer or vice versa see if you can borrow a little set of speakers from someone and see if those work. and make sure to plug into green port on back closest to your monitor cable. let me know how you made out and good luck

After you reformat, you need to reinstall all the motherboard device drivers. You can find your device drivers here:
Please check your motherboard for the version number as there are several versions of this particular motherboard. Select that version and download the drivers you need.

OK let me start by saying I didn't ready any of the above. The simple answer is to buy a pci sound card. That will take care of the problem cheap and fast. It's likely that your onboard sound died on the motherboard. I used to own that board and random things would fail on it all the time.

Sound card should run you $20 or less.
