Not sure about updated power supply

HP Presario SR5410F Desktop. Came with a 250W power supply. I bought a 650W supply. The old supply has a 20 pin connector for motherboard (MS-7525 Boston) and the new supply has a 20+4 connector. My motherboard has 24 pins. HP recommends only using the 20 pins. What will happen if I hook up the extra 4 pins? Does my motherboard support the extra power?

Don't want to know that bad. Just thought someone might know why the extra pins are there if I'm not supposed to use them.

Gee. If HP recomends you not to hook up the extra four pins it must be because the four either go nowhere, which may cause a short or ground condition.Or that the extra pins will power something that will then  be in excess andd cause it too burn out. They know what will happen and for that rwason caution you not to do it. Of course it is you machine and  if you have extra money to replace things with go ahead and do it if you really want to know that badly.

Where can i buy a compaq presario power supply

Almost any standard ATX psu will fit this model, 86mm x 150 mm x 140 mm I would think. (PSUs come in standard sizes, most are ATX with depths into the case of 140mm upwards. Your old PSU s 140mm deep, so I should get one that also that deep. Higher powered ones can be can be as deep as 180 mm which wouldn't fit in your computer). It would be better if you bought a good brand one such as Antec, Corsair Silverstone, Seasonic, even an a Zalman or Akasa to name but a few, of at least equivalent power (it does not matter if it is a higher rated power, your computer will only take what it needs). Be certain that the PSU has enough of the correct type of connectors for your PC - Molex 4 pin power, minimolex for floppy if you use that, and SATApower if you have those, and 4 pin (I think for your pc) "P4" connector for your mainboard/CPU, and a 20+4 (20 pin with detachable 4 pin section for 24 pin m/b) pin motherboard connector. Be certain that it will accept the correct input voltage for your location (many will accept 90-240V ac now). You might try to get a second hand one.

Want to know power consumption of a hpsr5410f

The HP Pavilion w1907, 19 inch Widescreen monitor, RK283AA,
uses 49 Watts in operating mode, 2 watts in sleep mode.

The Compaq Presario SR5410F Desktop PC, has a 250 Watt power supply. (Maximum wattage rating )

Theoretically.

Back in the day when this computer was made, Power Supply manufacturers were 'fudging' a bit on the truth.

(HP has their Power Supply's made by another company.
Bestec, HiPro, and Delta, are three of them )

Actual wattage is more like 60 to 70 percent, of what is stated.
250 divided by 10 = 25.
25 times 6 = 150 (60 percent)
25 times 7 = 175 (70 percent)

Your Power Supply's actual maximum rated wattage, may be as low as 150 Watts!

Going with the Power Supply produces a maximum of 250 Watts;

If you are playing an intense game, or have several programs running at once, you MAY reach using 250 Watts.

Just surfing the internet? About 100 Watts.

Desktop PC plus Monitor:
1) Surfing Internet: 149 Watts, or let's just say - 150 Watts

2) Computer is maxed out running hard?
249 Watts, or let's just say 300 Watts.

Voltage times Amperage = Wattage
Wattage divided by Voltage = Amperage

Number 1 above? About the power it takes to use a 100 Watt light bulb, and a 50 Watt light bulb. (Incandescent)

Number 2? About the power it takes to run three 100 Watt light bulbs.
(Incandescent)

The best place to get these is either at HP.com or Microsoft.com both have download areas where you can find and download the drivers you need. I'd recommend going to HP first.

Hi i have a Compaq Presario Sr5410f that was just given to me it freezes on the microsoft corporation loading screen. i was wondering what might be wrong with it?

Probably a bad driver or a bad file etc, try this.
Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.

Not sure about upgrading power supply

In many cases the additional 4 pin section slides up and off of the main power plug for use in your particular unit.
