I've fixed this successfully using the infamous towel trick, but it's not safe. I would definitely contact Microsoft for warranty repair.

This E74 represents a dead lens issue. try unplugging for a 5 minute period and plug back in. this should reset the board. if the E74 comes back on your screen, this is a dead lens warning. it will have to be repaired by a local tech shop or Microsoft tech.

Microsoft Xbox have some common problem like red lights, E74 and DiscRead Error. Microsoft is providing extended warranty for red lightsproblem, Means you will have to spend some money in order to get thisproblem repaired from Microsoft also you will have to wait for 3-4weeks to get your Xbox back. There are many reasons disc read error canoccur in your Xbox like your disc might not be clean, laser might alsobe dirty and many more common problem.
