I'd like to remove the burr from my grinder and wipe it off. The instructions say to remove the top hopper and then pull out the top burr grinder. I did, it doesn't pull out. Any suggestions?
Ya, you have to turn the hopper all the way to the front before the burr assembly will pull out. A few other tips:
I clean my (Solis 166, same design as Barista except for grind setting) thoroughly, a LOT. I have a good coffee brush (I get them at Linens N Things), and I turn upside down over the sink and brush brush brush down inside the burrs. Then turn right side up and push brush up into plastic part where the grounds come out and brush up in there. Then, I bang it with my hands on the sides and on the chute to loosen more coffee (Kyle the Solis guy said it's tough and this won't hurt anything - he's right).
Then especially if you have been grinding oily beans, oily crud will appear inside on the white plastic areas and burrs - I use a Q-tip with some of the cotton removed to make it thinner using alcohol to scrape this residue off. For the burrs that are down in there (not removeable) I use a Q-tip with alcohol and wipe over them to remove any oily stuff. Then lastly, I get some really lighly roasted beans and run a large amount through the hopper on the coarsest setting which removes all the rest of the oily residue. I have heard of people using dry instant rice and unflavored bread crumbs, but some have had trouble with this. The light beans do wonders for the inside, only leaves a bit of the usual dust behind which can just be brushed away.
If you need to clean the removeable part of the burr, it is VERY IMPORTANT that it be dried immediately, and very well. Finishing it off with a hairdryer is important as any moisture could cause rusting (Kyle the Solis guy said this).

Thanks. I got it. The problem was the white ring under the top burr wasn't turned far enough. When I took off the top hopper, it didn't turn that ring enough was locking the top burr.

If you have modified the grinder range you will find that the top burr remains locked in place after the hopper has been removed. This is because the position of the adjustment ring has been skewed. I found that this occurred for me after I had moved the ring more than 6 holes from the original setup.
Once the hopper is removed you have to reach under the "collar" and change the position of the white plastic adjustment ring using your fingers and the two "rabbit ear" tabs. Moving the ring a few clicks (I believe counter-clockwise in my case) should free the top burr.

Don't pull directly on the top burr itself - pull up on the white plastic frame that holds the burr. It should pull out *easily* - if not, you're doing something wrong.

You can try using one of the little air blaster cans commonly used to clean computer key boards.

Don't have one around here. Where else could I get such a brush, preferably online?
and I turn upside down over the sink and brush brush
You mean the brown beans?
Is there a way to tell if my whole beans are oily?

crimp it on ) and you should be in for more grinding. It could also be you timer switch, or bean hopper switch, or a broken tab on your adjustment collar." "a broken tab on adjustment collar would stop motor?"
