Red light on, the drive doesn't show up. Does anyone know who makes this as I would like to see if the manufacturer has a fix or suggestions as to a fix?

Recently bought the Rock 500g external drive. It worked alright while I stored all my files in it. Then one day it simply ceased to work. It just makes a slight clicking noise, the computer does not recognise it, or even realise there's something connected to it. I read somewhere that this external drive might work with a pc but not as well with a laptop but I only have a laptop so cannot confirm. No real information or support on the web. Any suggestions anyone?
    Thank you

SOURCE: Rock Mobile external hard drive was accidentaly dropped

Well it has been cause a mischief that's for sure. Try dismantling the case to check the connectors but that is about all you can do - if the drive is done then it stays done there is no repair option

You should be able to plug the external hard drive into the new computer and restore. Generally the drivers needed to access the external driver are on the external drive itself. The operating system will detect the hard drive (if it has plug-and-play services running). If the new computer fails to see the external drive, check the cable and download the driver manually from the manufacture's website. If the drive is recognized by the operating system, but you do not see a prompt to restore from the backup, you may need to locate a setup program on the external hard drive to start the restore process.

Question about retreiving data from external hard drive.

There are no problems hooking a external hard drive to any computer. If you mean take the hard drive out of the external case and putting it inside of your computer with a SATA cable, you can do that to. If your worried that they are both Western Digital, there are no conflicts with that either.

Good Luck

Hi there,

This is because there is a connection problem between the external drive and the computer. If you have changed cables to no avail, you can open the casing of the external drive where you will find the hard disk inside. Unplug the two cables connected to the harddisk and replug it after a minute. Then try again. If it still does not work, then you need to buy just a usb enclosure and plug the harddisk there to be able to use it again.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

Its in your logic board controller issue, usually the problem is like that but to see what is the another problem of your External Drive is to make or use any diagnostic freeware program to identify the device where it really connected in your PC. I have also encountered like your problem but I send my External to Electronic Tech to check the power connection and controller connection going to PC. Because you said that the hard Drive is still have a normal sound then it is working then but cannot see in your Computer. Try to Diagnose first before you bring to a Technician. Good luck!

Hi

Its not a software issue with your computer or external hard drive but a hardware issue with the external hard drive. You'll need to get your Iomega hardrive checked from Imomega, hope its under warranty. You can reach them at--
