Ok this sounds like a similar problem that I have had with a 500xc engine...This engine has been running fine for the last 5 yrs until a few weeks ago when it became a pig to start and when it did only run on one cylinder eventually running on both and when it gets to a certain temp would cut out and then not start again for 5mins, changed everything we could think of, checked compression, barrels fine, carbs clean new cdi, coil, plugs, leads, fuel pump and pipes, then someone came accross with checking the resistance on the temp sensor on the top of the head which were different values to the the book and on another identical engine, I borrowed a spare sensor and although still a pig to start it was an improvement when running, need to buy a new sensor to rule it out
, can anyone else shine some light on this?

Im guessing its a blow piston it could be an antifreeze issue check the thermostat it should be on the head of the engine just remember to tighten the new one to the correct torque specs the back firing sounds like a blown piston check your compresssion

Easiest first, put dry gas in and run it if that don't work, try draining gas, take tank off, drain carbs. You may have water in tank. If not next best thing is try changing the coil. If it backfires it is electrical.

1997 Polaris rmk 700 has no spark. Kill switch is in run position and key is on. Sled ran fine last year. I get a little tail light when I pull starter rope

try bypassing the kill switch and the ignition switch. Often the switches fail before the other components. the ignition can usually be bypasses by simply unplugging it from the harness. You may have to loop the wires to bypass the kill switch.

I was full throttle going across a lake when boom the snowmobile stalled and dropped down. I opened the hood and the primary clutch was in 3 pieces and the belt was in pieces. Tell me what it would have...

those 900s had a recal for many things, one of which was very poor cooling to the clutches, they recalled them and put aftermarket vent kits, your clutches got really really hot and came apart

I have an 2002 polaris Rmk with a igition switch that has 2 differant fuel settings (normal octane & preminum). The instructions that came with the tether switch does not mention this type of ignition...

Not sure if this helps...but my bro has a 01' RMK and it says to only use premium gas, I believe he may have tried to use regular or even mid grade and it bogged or started to. Never the less...I think that it is always best to run premium in high perfomance "toys" like smowmobiles and such...
