Question about Toshiba Satellite M305D Notebook

Toshiba Media test failure, operating system not found error

I have a toshiba Satellite m305d which I have had for 7 weeks (since christmas.)  Brand new.  Never had a problem or glitch.
I took it on vacation with me.  I used it on the vacation, no problems (at least what I used of the computer, just watching dvds and such.)  I am careful about the computer in the airport and having padding and not being too jerky.  I never left the laptop in the sun or was too hard on it.  This isn't a beat up kind of laptop, this is my personal PC that I use and take care of at home and just wanted to watch dvds on my vacation.  It went through the airport screening okay and brought it home.
I booted it up and got this error:
PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM Operating system not found

Also wanted to add that there is NOT a dvd in the drive and I have tried taking the HDD out and putting it back in.

Actually, I called Toshiba and they had me go in and reset the BIOS settings back to factory by pressing F9 and then pressing F10 to save and exit, and that seemed to fix the problem!  Thank goodness I don't have to replace the HDD, that is the pits!

That message means it is not reading a drive. Most likely the HDD. I would suggest you replace the HDD. That is likely the problem.

The laptop was working fine when I left for a trip. After arriving at the destination, I tried to turn it on but nothing happened. When I plugged in the power supply, the light showing a power plug came on...

No quick fix here as multiple causes are possible. For instance, it could be a bad motherboard, a disconnected video chip, a loose port where you plug in the cable, or a bad battery. Here are some things to try:
1. Take out the battery and try running the device on AC current. If it works, you have a bad battery that needs replacement.
2) With it off, hold down the "C" button and continue to hold that down while you press and release the power button ONCE. Keep holding "C" down until a Toshiba screen appears. Then release the "C" button. If you get an operating system not found, simply press the power button again to restart.
3. Try reseating the RAM. Travel may have jarred it loose.
4. If there is a reset button located by the sleep and charge port, press it.
5. Press the power button and then F2 rapidly and see if you can get to BIOS.
6. Attach an external monitor and see if you get an active screen. If no screen, probably a component failure.
7. You could try one of the autobooting USB sticks that attempt to gain access to a recovery partition. I am presuming you cannot reach a recovery screen by pressing the relevant key during powerup

Toshiba satellite L455D-S5976 PXE-E61 media test failure...brand new hard drive What do I do???

You need to boot from an installation CD for the operating system, or the Toshiba restore set. New hard drives are completely blank when you purchase them. The computer is looking for something to boot from and cant find it, so it trys to boot from ethernet. Check your bios set up for boot order and boot devices. You might try disabling boot from network.

Hope this helps

HI there,
The "Error" texts saying:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Are completely normal. This simply states that there is no external cables plugged into the specialty inputs on your toshiba laptop.

The "operating system not found" is stating that your existing hard drive is either A) dead or B) been erased.

Try to re-install your operating system, if it finds no hard drive, you'll need a new one!

Hello my friend, regarding on your problem since you bought that laptop 2 weeks ago i presume that your laptop is currently under warranty so to avoid warranty void kindly return it to the supplier or the shop where you buy that laptop in order to ensure that they will accomudate your laptop cause it is under warranty.
