Question about CB Radios

Uniden UH-013 squelch

I have a Uniden UH-013
My complaint is the squelsh chatter on weaker signals.
Is it possable to modify the decay time without altering the atack time of the squelsh.
I haven't been able to find any mods for this radio. I would like to download a Service manual and schematic if available.

Had an issue with this unit since new. Squelch adjusted too high. Not hearing some signals showing on meter. Solution - find a trim pot labelled "Meter" on the PC board and adjust it like a knobby squelch control. Made a big difference to the number of received stations. Down side is I need to use SQT tight squelch sometimes.

Transmission breaking up in mid-sentence

Without having the scanner to examine, my first thought is that you have the squelch set too high, and the signal is not very strong. Try putting and external antenna on the radio and see if you don't get better copy.

Lastly, there could be a problem with the radio as well, but like I said, without examining the radio I can't know that.

Scanner not scanning, says delay

you need to turn up the squelch

delay is displayed when the squelch gets broken
so turn it up and scan or it will start to auto scan if you set it too auto
when a signal breaks then it stops .. and listens
you can set it to manual so when a signal is detected it will stop and listen too that frequency
if it says delay all the time then there is a problem
prob with the squelch cicruit or the control perhaps has had a knock

My Ranger2950 has no sound??

Have a look here for info about the Ranger 2950. This is an Amateur 10 & 12 meter transceiver that enjoy some popularity due to its ability to be modified to work on the 27Mhz Citizens Band.

Make sure the Mode is set to something other than PA. A few of the first things that come to mind is the Volume, Squelch & RF Gain settings. The Volume is straight forward - choose a setting in the middle to begin. Next, set the squelch. Most radios have the squelch open when set fully counter-clockwise. As you move the squelch to this position, sound should be heard from the speaker if a signal is present. As long as there is an antenna connected, the radio should "hear" noise. If you do not hear anything, leave the Squelch fully CCW and try varying the RF Gain fully in one direction. If you still hear nothing, set the Squelch to the fully clock-wise position. Adjust the RF Gain to the opposite direction. At this point, you should have heard something - even if just static hash. If not, the volume control may be dirty. Disconnect power and rotate the volume control back and forth several times to dislodge any dirt on the volume wiper inside the radio, and try again.

Make sure that the Ext Spk jack does not have a plug inserted as it will defeat the internal speaker. Likewise, if using an external speaker, make sure it works.

Good luck!

Squelch is open all the time on uniden bc350a scanner

Hi,

Have you turned the squelch knob all the way in both directions, to see if that helps?

If so, then you have to replace that squelch knob unit, with a newbie.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Peter

How do i adjust the squelch?

Turn the squelch control clockwise just enough to cut the background noise, this should work well for local communication.

Squelch jammed open on uh 047sx

Hi,

You shouldn't use jam on your radio, ha! Ha!

To help you find a solution, we need more info.

The MAKE/MODEL of your radio and as much info as you can give in regard to the problem, the more info, the easier for us to find a solution.

Cheers,

CB stays on RX - never goes off. Squelch is set at mid-point. Can you explain why please?

The AGC ( auto gain circuit is possibly cranked uo too much and perhaps the squelch circuit needs adjusting also. If allelse fails trun up the sq. conrol. the local ( louder ) sIgnals will trigger those signals....The weaker (DX ) signals will be more difficult to hear unless the sq. is right off .
