Check your speaker setup onscreen ( monitor) viewed configuration, be sure you are enabling SURROUND SPEAKERS, or REAR SURROUND if you are running 7.1, then check the AUTO input to be sure you are receiving a MULTI-CHANNEL SIGNAL within the DIGITAL/ANALOG source. Cycle through the DSP Analog modes ie. Pro-Logic, Rock Concert etc. and check your DIGITAL signal indicator for a 5.1 DD or DTS input, if you hit a unitentional button then you will just need to reset it back to prior operation before loseing the surround speakers.

Denon receiver not working surround output

If everything is connected correct, the only thing I can think of, is you don't put in a surround signal. If you only feed 2 way stereo, only two speaker will work. Also if you switch to stereo, the other channels will stop working. Check the cables, the settings and the input.

Now the story comes into focus (somewhat). The remote probably had a button or two pushed while it was 'lost' and a setting in the Durabrand (model???) is unintentionally changed. FIND THE MANUAL and examine every indicator to see what was changed.

What to connect to where?

I would run toslink optical if you have it, if not then use coaxial digital from your TV output to receiver input. this will handle all the sound that goes with watching TV from any source(dvd player, cable, etc)

I would run the DVD player into the TV hopefully with HDMI cable so you get the surround sound.

the television can split off the audio information from the HDMI and send it back through the toslink cable to the receiver which decodes it into surround sound for your speakers.

Whoa,ok.Sounds like things aren't connected properly. The first step is to disconnect the TV and concentrate on getting sound from a dvd or cd.Read the owners manual and double check that the speakers are hooked up correctly and that the unit is in the correct surround mode.Next, connect the TV.Use an RCA cable to go from an "Audio out" jack on the TV to an input jack on the Teac -e.g. "Aux, TV, etc.If your TV doesn't have the proper jack, I'm afraid you're out of luck.
