You may want to go into the bios setup and change the boot order to place the rom drive in front of the hard drive. You can also try the F12 key at boot time to change the boot location manually.

Purchased used harddrive, not working as it should.Seller says for me to format my computer as the harddrive is wiped.what do I do?

i am not sure if this is a Mac or a pc. On the pic make sure bios detects the hard drive first. When you press the power switch keep tapping tab and it will give u the command to get in the bios. Next if you do not have Windows installed u could make a boot cd or usb drive and load the os. Within the is setup it should detect the drive delete the partitions if any and create new ones in the filesystem you want and it should install.

It sounds as if the OS was not installed. Once PC is formated it wipes out the OS. Try running you OS disk (XP,Vista,Win7).
If after the second install you are getting the same Message OS not found now you want to check the harddrive.
F8 on boot Safe mode with command Prompts. and run "chkdsk /r" with out the quotes. This will check your harddrive and repair any bad sectors.

Good luck!

I have a Emachine T5212 and im trying to reformat my hard drive but my internal dvd drive is not recognized.I brought an external dvd drive, but everytime i try to erase my hard drive it tries to load from...

First you need to have media ready to install once format is compelte.

You can not format a drive you are currently using an operating system unless you run the operating system setup disc in which case you would be booting and running from cd once you start reloading you main drive.

So if you are loading windows .
Review steps below if when you boot you do not have option to select boot device

Boot you laptop / pc and get into the BIOS
<normally f2 or f8 , f12 depending on system.>

Change the BOOT order to cdrom as primary \ you may see the device as USB CD/DVD rom with the actual name of brand there.

Save and exit

Have operating system in cd/dvd rom attached to device

Once it starts to load you will see BRIEFLY in the upper left corner PRESS ANY KEY TO LOAD FROM CD ROM or something similar... stop reading this and press a key ........

From there it should prompt you for setting up a new os, I prefer linux myself but in windows or linux in the setup process you have the option of just loading the operating systems or DELETING THE PARTITIONS and FORMATTING the drive, therefore wiping i .

NOTE: THIS IS NOT WIPING YOUR DATA, if you are trying to hide something, wipe from your drive past **** you never wanna share with anyone again..... repost under how do i wipe my hard drive clean .. its a completely different story .. not hard but different.

How to format my computer?

To format your computer, you must have the (OS) Operating system CD. You have to move your important file to another location because formating your system will wipe out all the files you have on that drive. Put the OS CD on your CD-ROM and restart your your system. When system boots it will boot to the CD-ROM if the boot order is set that way. Otherwise you need to set the first boot order to the CD-ROM from BIOS. When the system boots to the CD-ROM you will be asked to press any key to boot from the CD-ROM, do just that and the system will boot from the CD-ROM. Follow the on screen instructruction afterward.

I need to format my pc at work it is a Dell Optiplex 360

1- you do know that doing this will wipe out your entire hard drive, right?
2- just put your install cd rom into the drive boot up the computer, your computer should see a bootable cd rom, if it does this, boot the disk and follow the on screen prompts, step 4 in the setup prgram will ask you which partition you wish to install to, at this point you have the option to wipe out the partition and start again from a fresh install.
