Question about Panasonic PT-53WX53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Convergence circuit Need to know how involved a convergence repair kit is to use. Is there any soldering involved or is it a matter of just swapping parts. I have a 53" Panasonic rear projection LCD HDTV. When you turn it on it immediately goes out and the LED code light on the front blinks 3 times, pauses then blinks 3 times again. After doing a little research, I discovered it was probably the convergence circuit and can order a repair kit online with instructions, but would like to know ahead of time what tools I will need and how difficult it would be to repair myself.

There is no way to tell what will be needed until you see what you ordered. If you get a plug in board, no problem. If you get a bunch of components, obviously there will be some work involved. CAUTION-THERE ARE DEADLY VOLTAGES INSIDE TELEVISIONS, EVEN WHEN NOT PLUGGED IN.

How do i fix this dip line its model 57 uwx 20 b

Look like RG convergence is out , but it's hard to tell from the pic
if you can't correct it with the set up in " convergence " on the setup menu , then your Convergence chips are failing

if you handy with a screw driver and a soldering iron you can swap out the chip yourself since it's not worth taking to a repair shop
cost for the chips 65.00 -70 , you can get cheaper if you shop around

My tv has begun showing a red shadow behind the pictures as well as letters, i have gone into the converge settings to resolve but cant figure it out

joeclaudiaag,

When the convergence will not adjust after you know you have set them correctly using your TV's convergence adjustment, your convergence board went bad. You can either repair it yourself with kits sold online (links below) but unless you know how to solder very well, opt for a repair guy. Your model will cost between $350 and $450 if you hire someone.

If you like to tinker but not dwell into the soldering world, try finding the same model for free or dirt cheap on a web site like www.craigslist.org that still works but like where a kid jumped into the screen!, and swap out the board.

Good Luck! Please rate this answer if I was able to help.

it is called pincushion circuit. either the diode went bad, the capacitors, or just maybe a simple solderond the bad connections.

Red and blue shadows appeared tonight on screen. Flash Focus and Convergence controls don't fix it.

Yes this is a failure of the convergence ic's it is a common sony big screen failure. I have written an article on how to fix this but it is involved and somewhat complex repair. A repair shop will typically charge around 300 for this repair. Here is my article:

This is a 2002 model----if picture looks 3d it has a convergence problem---if you go into the customer menu with the original remote select convergence and see if it will adjust----IF the answer is no, let me know and I can tell you what is involved to repair this problem.

The picture separates into the blue and red images. is this worth repairing? can I repair it myself?

Yes you can repair it yourself if you know how to unsolder and solder IC's
The two large Ic's in your convergence Circuit has failed. You will need to replace both of them to return to normal viewing, Also the unit may need a convergence alignment after repair to insure picture quality.
Your tv's menu should have a user convergence alignment option in the setup option, but for factory quality have a technician do a factory mode alignment. Replaced both IC's with part#'s STK-392-120

Hope this helps you:
Please leave comment for futher assistance.
Thanks Lavell
