Question about HP Pavilion dv8000t Notebook

My Laptop HD says it's full it's NOT

My HP pavilion dv8000 HD has 80G but says it's full with less than 25G on it. I went into the Diagnostic Tool by hitting F10 and tried to run the test it says Failed in the status before I even ran the test. I tried anyway. It still says Failed. I used some programs to try and tell me where the rest of my space is and I cleaned up some space but I can't find where all the Gigs are.

    Smithbrothers,

I have windows XP but I backed up the files to a external HD. How do I check the Restore files.

  • Haynesr Feb 20, 2009

    Knotbeerdan,

By full I mean it wont let me put back on the HD what I backed up. I only have 5G's out of 80 free. I added up what I'm using and it's not even close. I compressed the files and that helped a little but I got Gigs somewhere I don't know what's taking up all my space.

    Knotbeerdan,

If I format won't I be required to reinstall win XP? When I bought my Laptop from the store it had Windows on it already. How do I get around that? When I restored it to it's original state didn't that format it somewhat?

If the computer still has the factory installation of windows i has a "hidden" partition that holds all the restore files so you can restore without a cd. The only way i know of to get rid of these files is to format your drive and reinstall windows. But sounds like you have a lot of info you want to save. So i reccomend backing up your hard drive to an external hard drive and formatting the one in your computer. Then install windows fresh

If you have win Xp it may be all of the Restore files?

What do you mean it says its full. Is it telling you to compress files to save space?

Well when you restore it it partially formats the drive yes...But it formats all the junk files. Unfortunately for you, this doesn't clear up much space because unless im wrong you have a lot of programs and working files on your computer. When you restore it wont delete most of the user created files. Unless you have it format your "my documents" and such.

And Yes is you format you are starting fresh.. That means a new installation of windows. You should be able to get a copy from the computer manufacturer. Or if you really don't want to do this contact them and see if there are any other options built into the computer.

Also rescuetech has brought up a good point Follow the link below and download the speedfan program. Once you are runing the program click on the S.M.A.R.T. tab and selcect your drive from the dropdown list. This will check your drives "health"

Sounds like your hd might be failing. You should back up your files and then try repartitioning the drive.

Or you could use Spinrite and check to see if the drive has bad sectors or what not.

You might also want to check the bios to see what size it's displaying there too. The bios is independent of your OS so no matter what partitions you have the bios will read the hard drive for exactly what it is.

My hp pavilion g7 is overheating and shutting down

first check your ventilation port on the side or back of your laptop. These can become covered in dust and make your laptop very hot. After you've done that, if it's still overheating, try and find a free cpu fan diagnostic tool and make sure the fan is even running or if it's running at the proper speeds. If it's not running, check your drivers. Go to the hp website, then support and downlads and lookup your model laptop. It's on the bottom of your laptop. Download the cpu fan driver if available and reinstall it. If it's still not working after all of that, your fan is shot and will need to be replaced.

My HP Pavilion DV7 1129wm laptop has a bad motherboard and I am searching for a way to troubleshoot the motherboard. Can you offer any advice to help locate the exact fault in the motherboard?

You can use a diagnostic card that you connect to the laptop that gives an POST error code. This code identifies the fault on the motherboard. This does not mean it will identify the faulty component but it does point you in the right direction. Please click on this link for details of this diagnostic tool :-

I have a HP Pavilion DV9400Z CTO, Model: GD574AV laptop sing Jun2 2007. Originally came with Vista, I have reformatted twice since then, recently did install Windows 7 Ultimate, worked well for a month....

Hi,

Since the laptop worked without any problems for a month after installing Windows 7, chances of a hardware problem are less.

From the description of the problem it seems that there is some malware/spyware infection or the Windows installation is damaged.

1) Kiindly download and perform a complete scan with a virus/malware removal tool.

You can download the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

After download and installing the program, kindly update and perform a full scan with the program.

2) If the problem persists, you will have to re-install the OS.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hp zd9500 My I.T. put in a new hard drive the other day and it was running fine. Today I turned it on, it was booting up and then went completely dead - no lights, or anything. The power cord is working -...

You could test to see if hard drive is culprit by removing the drive. This is done by removing the access panel on bottom of laptop and slipping out the drive. Once out, try turning on laptop. It won't boot up, but you should get power light on.
I suspect you will not.
If so, problem is in power supply within laptop. Fixing requires a full diagnostic check of the power supply and battery charger. I highly recommend a trained technician for that.

Hp dv2500 wont turn on

does the laptop plug in tightly to the power socket

if not the pavilion part to get the system power needs replacement

contact a local technician and state the power adapter plug-in on the motherboard needs replaced

these commonly go bad on pavilions

it should cost you less than 100usd to repair

or rma the laptop if you have warranty coverage left on the hp dv2500

good luck

HP Pavilion zd8000 Upgrades

i have the same laptop. though your video card is independent, it is still integrated into the system and cannot be upgraded, your only be there is to go to the Radeon website and download the latest drivers for it.(it helps) As for your Ram, you can only upgrade to 2 mb of ddr2.(on mine it made a noticable difference) As far as the hd goes i believe sky is the limit, i went from 100 gb to 160 no problem

Boot up problem

youre hd needs an os installing on it.first partition, then format ,then install os(windows)
the system is looking for a os not a hd ;the beeps indicate no os found(no drive by default)
if there is no hd,memory,or video card or stuck key the pc will beep.also with video card not connected the screen will be blank also with many models no memory will result blank screen. In ur case its only the hd.make sure all items are fitted insert os disk in cd drive start pc and boot from cd,to create partition, format and install
