Question about Miele Blue Moon Bagged Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Miele Blue Moon vacuum has no power

The vacuum has no power.  When I plug it in the power light flashes for a second and goes out.  I took it a part and plugged it in and power gets to the footswitch and the footswitch on off works properly, so the problem seems to be beyond the footswitch.  Everything is clear obstruction-wise.  Reset does nothing.  Thanks! There was power then it went off, hit the reset button, when on for just a bit then off again. The power will not go on again. Red light on canister is on, but I can't locate user's manual to troubleshoot. Any ideas what the problem is?

I'm done with Miele vacuum cleaners. Everytime I take it in for repair it costs a fortune. Time to buy a new vacuum and hopefully one more reliable.

It sounds like the logic board fried on you. Your local Miele service shop should be able to fix this for you right away.

I like my Hoover :) 25 years old and still works perfectly. Weighs a ton, but it looks great, it is SUPER quiet and works like nothing else!

Yes, the problem is the logic board is bad. However, to say that its fried is over the top. It can be repaired. The 10uF surface mounted capacitor has gone bad due to age.
To remove logic board (it's under the control panel with the indicator lights and power/cord buttons. Open the lid for the dust bag. Now you will find a Philips head screw in front of the control panel. Unscrew this screw. Now you will be able to lift up the control panel slightly. Locate two tabs on the back left and right side. Press these in with a screwdriver and you can remove the panel completely. If you're good with a soldering iron and small components (SMD) you can just replace the $1 part. If not, purchase a new logic board from Miele ($$$).

Power intermmitently fades down. I have to keep pressing the plys button to keep it running

Hi joant58,
We had the same problem with our miele. We bought a new hose and that solved the problem. Unfortunately, it was not cheap. Over $100, but I don't remember a more exact amount.

Power Problem

Hi There,

Unfortunately this is being caused by static electricity building up in the electronic controls in the handle of the hose. I've seen this problem on numerious occasions, and in fact I have the twin brother of the Blue Moon, or the Silver Moon which used the same hose, and has the same problems in my own home.

The good news is that Miele has redesigned the hoses to fix this, and I have never seen a single problem on the newer style hoses. I guess the bad news is that the hose is not cheap.

I would recommend to you to go ahead and purchase the new hose. The average life expectancy of your Miele is 20-25 years, so you still have a lot of life left in your vacuum.

Here's a link to the SES125 Hose that fits your Miele Blue Moon on our website:
http://www.govacuum.com/miele-165.html

To change the hoses out, simply push the two tabs on the end of the hose that plugs into the vacuum, and pull the hose backwards until it disconnects. You'll see on the end of the new hose electrical connectors. Simply line these up with the opposity receptacles on the canister and push the hose down until you hear a snapping noise.

I really hope that this information was helpful to you. If you have any follow up questions, or would like a clarification, please use the comment box on this page.

If this was able to help you fix your machine, please be so kind and rate my repair or leave me feedback. This is really appreciated.

Thanks again,

My Miele Silver Moon "Reset" light is blinking. What do I do?

Greetings from GoVacuum,

Ahh yes, the Silver Moon. One of Miele's best made vacuums ever! So good that out of all the different vacuums that I could of chose for my home, the Miele S558 Silver Moon was the one I chose.

When you're Reset button is flashing, this simply means that it's time to replace the HEPA filter on your vacuum cleaner. Miele included this feature on their upper end models to alert the user when their filter needed to be changed.

The Miele Silver Moon uses Genuine Miele S-Class HEPA Filter for S300i/S600i, and Miele S7 Uprights. Miele Part # 04854915 (replaces 04854911) Which can be purchased from GoVacuum for $52.95 with free shipping.

Once you have installed the new HEPA filter, simply press down on the flashing Reset button to restart the 50 hour internal timer inside. Miele recommends to replace this filter after every 50 hours of vacuuming.

How do I install new filters on a Miele Blue Moon?

There are two filters on the blue moon. The hepa filter and the motor filter. You get to both filters the same way. You open the lid, like you do when you change a bag. The motor filter is right behind the bag inside a plastic cover. There should be two tabs you can pull down to open and access the filter. The hepa filter is located toward the back of the bag chamber but on top. There is one tab in the middle that lift up on.

Blue Moon Miele power head stops intermittantly

It is not a solid short. This is caused by static arcing in the wand and in the connectors from base to hose. I was able to fix mine by smearing some dialectric grease on all electrical parts in the wand(especially by the led switch) and in the three prong connectors at the base to hose. Have not had nay problems since doing this.

This is a problem with the circuit board in the SES-125 hose. If you replace the hose, this problem will stop. Unfortunately this is the only solution to this problem.

Electrical power down while vacuuming (not a reset)

Thank you JonahBegone!
My 4 years old Silver Moon has been power down off and on for a couple of months, but all of sudden it kept doing it. Then the power won't turn on when I plugged it in ( this turns out to be another problem, see my other posting). I took your advice on taking the hose and handle apart. I unscrewed the 5 screws, but can't pull the handle apart to look inside. I was able to see the 3 metal contact on the hose that you mentioned through a 1/4 inch gap when I forced the handle apart. I cleaned the black stuff off through the little gap by rotating the hose a few times. Then magically, my power down problem also went away. Thank you once again.
