This model printer may only let you use genuine printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled.

SOURCE: I refilled HP 88 cartridge but printer (Officejet

Under the cartridge is a black like pump - on a new cartridge this is hard and rests firmly on an area inside your printer. As you print, the pump becomes softer - this is how the printer determines it is empty. Once refilled, the pump does not get back to the original state. Open the bottom of the cartridge and put a firm solid piece of folded paper in there - make sure it is steady and re-close cartridge. It will now read as full but may also show full - judge ink levels by the quality of print. Also make sure chip has not expired.

How to reset HP Ink Levels Printer hp officejet pro k8600

the only way to reset ink levels is to replace the cartridge(s). If you're refilling, you need a second set of cartridges and use them in rotation with the first set.

Printer error message

Is this an OEM ink jet cartridge -meaning was it made by HP and not a refill. There is a microchip on the ink cartridge that the printer logs how many times it has used that cartridge and how many times the print head is cleaned. If this chip gets dirty or if the mating side has ink or paper dust on that side you can clean it with isopropyl alcohol. If it was a refill or a generic cartridge the chip might not be programmed or it is dead. There is no sensor that detects how much ink is in a cartridge.

Ink cartridge refilled at Costco and the printer says it is empty. How do I override?

If the cartridge is truly empty go to Costco and ask for your money back, or for another cartridge, but you cannot run the print or copy functions of the printer without ink. You would not think of trying to operate your car when the fuel tank is empty, would you?

Hi,
Here are some steps can help you.
Use only New Original HP ink
Restart the printer
Rreseat the ink cartridges
Update the firmware, download it from the link, make sure that you choose the correct operating system, and follow the on-screen instruction.
Check the ink levels, click Start , click All Programs, click HP ,click HP Solution Center, click Settings , click Printer Settings , click Printer Toolbox, Click the Estimated Ink Levels tab, note which cartridge is low on or out of ink

How can I make your 8500 pro accept a refilled HP cartrige.

The HP 940 cartridge is the new version of the HP 88 cartridge. Both have a chip that estimates ink levels. Once the chip says the cartridge is empty it will refuse to print, no matter how much ink is really left in the cartridge. This is a safety measure so you don't get air in your ink lines. If you get air in an ink line, that color will no longer print. We can refill the HP 88 because there are replacement chips available for these cartridges. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and I don't refill the HP 940s yet because I don't have access to a replacement chip. If you purchased a refilled HP 940 and it's not working, I would say the chip has not been replaced. I would wait until a reputable refiller (i.e.-Cartridge World, Office Depot, etc..) offers refills for this cartridge before you try anything off the internet.

How to refill the cartridge

This printer takes the HP 940 cartridge. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and we cannot refill these cartridges yet. There is a chip on the cartridge that estimates the ink levels and shuts off the cartridge when it thinks it is empty. Any refills you find are either violating patent law with replacement chips or they are telling you to take the chip off your old cartridge and put it on the new one. This second scenario is a rip off because once the chip says the cartridge is empty, no matter how much ink is left, it will refuse to print.

I refilled HP 88 cartridge but printer (Officejet Pro L7590) still thinks cartridge is empty. How do I reset ink level?

The chip on the cartridge needs to be reset. You can find replacement chips on the internet but they cost about half as much as a new cartridge. Also, if you filled the cartridge incorrectly you can get air in the ink lines of your printer which will make it unable to print that color. Overall, I would recommend getting refills from Cartridge World. They always reset the chip, take care of the mess of filling for you, cost less than new cartridges, and are 100% guaranteed to work.
