Question about Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Just about all my contacts aren't in alpha order....ever since I've owned the 760. I'm told there is NO WAY (from Tech Support) to fix this. That's insane. I don't' know anyone else, but I can't afford lookinng through 200 records per category to fing the one I need. Does anyone know how to remove the data, sort it with something like Excel and then download back to the Unit? Any assistance would high apprecative! Thank, MrCentro

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

Downloaded latest maps onto Nuvi 760. When using it the GPS position is offset from the road by about half a mile. The direction the gps takes ffollows the road but is offset. What have I done wrong

I have run into this myself along a certain stretch of highway consistantly. I was told it had to do with the geometry of the satellites in the sky in relationship to where I was at the time. I just deal with it as it doesn't happen very often - and only for a short stretch or so (a mile or two).

One thing you can check are the settings to make sure you have the nuvi set to "stay on road" Make sure you've set it for a mode other than "pedestrian" - which of course would allow you to leave the marked roads.

If you're still having trouble, don't hesitate to call Garmin Support for free, knowledgeable tech support. Please rate this reply if it was helpful - good luck!

Search for solutions from Daniel, one of the experts. He said you can do a hard reset by pressing the zoom out and repeat buttons simultaneously at the user screen which will invoke a hidden menu. Select "reset GPS user data". If this does not solve the problem, Carefully open the unit, maybe 1/2 inch at first because of the RF cable (grey or black wire going between PCB's). Check if one end is un-connected, either un-snapped or the solder broke.

Calling tech support as i did was a complete waste of time but i learned something about myself....I have an incredible amount of patience!!!

Even when the tech guy said he could not help me but he suggested that I spend an additional $200 for a new unit with the $1000 model 760 as a trade in.!!!!

Good luck...

760 map upgrade kills unit

I wish I could suggest a solution, but I can't. Without repeating the previous messages, I have gone through much frustration also. In addition to not being abel to get any useful help, my Magellan 760 has developed another problem. The audio has nearly stopped working. The voice is so distroted that I can bearly understand the speech. I paid $750 for this unit just 2 years ago. Magellan tells me that there is NOTHING that they can do to fix it. Meanwhile, I talked my daughter into purchasing a Magellan 760 a month after my original purchase. Guess what? She is also having the same audio distortion problem! I think the units are defective in addition to the software. I will not purchase another Magellan.

Unit will not power up after map update.........

I installed today too. Totally dead, nothing but a backlight blue screen. This is their first update in 2.5 years and it bricked my GPS. You'd think they did it on purpose.

Ed... Does the gps receive the signal? When you view the menu under options/configuration/diagnostics/GPS Status... how many channels are receiving SNR? At your own risk of course... You could take your unit apart and ensure that the RF cable is still plugged into the main board and the I/O Board... umm.. make sure the gold sheildings where your antenna attaches aren't bent in/out/missing.. listen for peices floating around in your unit... always a bad sign. Good Luck Ed.. and sending it here to Tx isn't THAT bad of an idea.. if the repair's worth it. We treat the units nice.. I promise. :) -Dan
