Can't use VCR, or finalize disc

We recorded a disc, and when we went to finalize the disc, everything froze up, and we couldn't use any of the VCR options. The battery is fully charged.

Sony Handycam says movie recording disabled. How did this happen and how do I undo it?

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when Recording disabled is displayed by the camcorder.
  1. Verify the disc being used has not been finalized. It is not possible to record additional video on a finalized disc.
  2. Attempt to record on a different disc.

Finalizing disc

In order to finalize the disk you must have it plugged in. So no one does it on accident. After it is finalized you will be able to open it up on the computer or on most DVD players. I had the same problem at first, I have the same camera, I love it now...

I hope this helps you, let me know..

Canon DC220 DVD Finalization problem

You have to plug the camera into the wall charger in order to finalize. I was having the same problem. Once finalized, I transferred the disk to the PC. You need DVD decrypter software in order to view the videos on the disk. Canon does not supply this. Canon recommended that I use one of several free downloads. They said download "DVD Decrypter" which I downloaded. Type DVD Decrypter into Google search and you will find it. It will rip it and download it to your computer. I then viewed the video with Windows Media. It works fine.

Sony dvd handycam finalize problem

If your discs are rewritable, you could try putting your discs in your computer. Try opening the folders and try to open all the files. Some of the files may be your videos. If it opens your video player and plays your videos, wait until it plays everything to make sure that all your data were recorded in the disc. Copy everything in your computer and remove your disc. Try playing it again and if it works, then it's already ok. When you are planning to use it again, make sure that you format everything in the disc.

Finalizing a disc (when plugged in) on a Canon DC210

I think it is a problem with the camera.
We had one, couldn't finalize, exchanged that, and still the same problem.
Canon NO help whatsoever.
Even the mini disc companies that we purchased, NO help either.
We are returning this camera and going with a hard drive.
We were able to plug the camera to a DVD recorder and copy onto a full size disc.

How long does it take to finalize? Can I finalize on other recorders?

The finalizing time depends on the remaining time on the DVD-R disc; Approximately 8 minutes to finalize with 20 minutes recording time on disc Approximately 3 minutes to finalize with 10 minutes recording time on disc Approximately 2 minutes to finalize with no recording time on disc. DVD-R discs recorded on the DVD-Camcorder cannot be finalized on other DVD-R Recorders or PCs.
