The internal battery is depleted. In some cameras it will charge off of the removable battery after several hours, if the internal battery is still good. Otherwise you must replace the internal battery which is a watch type battery.
you should check the inverter and the charger boards as well.
Mainly IGBTs and drivers (IGBT drivers).
better locate the fault and replace the defective board
Its possible that the internal battery has gone bad and is shorting out when you plug it into the PC.. I would recommend not pluggging it in to anything until you can get the internal battery replaced as it may damage the PC/other device too.

I have replaced about a dozen of these over the years,
The problem is caused when the unit is stored for a long time without batteries.
The internal battery is not a rechargable.
You have to use a screwdriver in the crack that joins the 2 parts of the case and break the seal to split the case open.
This will of corse render the waterproofness of the unit void.
You then have to unsolder the internal battery from the board and find a replacement.
It is a tagged lithum battery, I can't remember the model at the moment.
Inside you will also notice the surface mount Intel 386 Chip. which is the main processer.
This has nothing to do with the battery but I found it interesting that a chip in a computer from the mid 80s worth over $3000 then, still has a use.
When you have soldered the new battery into place you need to either glue or tape the unit back together. Be careful not to damage the other parts around the battery.
Always keep charged batteries in the unit when not in use.
Hi all,
same problem happened also with my S304. I' ve deassembled it and
there IS an internal battery on one of the pcb's inside.
So, i'm sure that if this is replaced by a new one, this problem
should be fixed.
Replacement will be a little bit tricky as the battery is soldered
internally.
If i have found the right type of battery, i'll post it, but this can take a little time ;-)

According to the manual, you need to power up your 710 with the AC adapter for 4 hours to recharge the internal battery. If this doesn't work, I suppose you need to replace the internal battery, and that's beyond my knowledge.
