Question about Vtech CORDLESS TELEPHONE WITH DIGITAL ANSWERING SYSTEM AND CALLER ID IA6775

Cannot call out on vtech phone

The model number is ia5878. There is an answering machine in
the base with a handset and 2 other handsets with chargers.
We can receive calls but we cannot call out. It says it is
connecting and it beeps 5 times and then says other handset
on or out of range. Can you tell me what we are doing wrong.

SOURCE: i want to add an additional handset to my vtech phone...the new handset is "searching for base" and requests a 15-digit number which is suppose to be on the base--there is no 15-digit number to input.

The 15 digit number shoudl be on a sticker on the bottom of the base unit.

I found a solution that fixed this problem (at least for me). On the vtech site they said to unplug the base unit for at least 5 minutes. Previously, I had only unplugged the base unit for a few seconds. This time, I left it unplugged for about 10 minutes or so and when I plugged it back in, everything was working fine. Apparently there is some sort of capacitor that must discharge long enough to completely remove power from the circuitry.

• Unplug the base unit’s electrical power and remove the battery from the handset. Wait for 15 seconds then plug in the battery place the handset in the base unit and plug in the power. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and base to synchronize

This worked for me after lots of digging....If you have already tryed reregistering your handsets and can only get two-or three to work try this and deregister them and re-register. If your base model number is vt2431: Take the handset out of the base, press **335782 on the dial pad of the base. (do not have the line active or anything , just put the (2) stars and 335782 in (no spaces) on the base unit. This will de-register all of the handsets at one time. Then just re-register the handsets...

Place the handset in the charger and press find handset for 4 seconds.This will register the handset. do the same for other handsets.

Can i call from one handset to the other


The model number listed is for a single-handset cordless phone, and the manual only shows a "locate" function from the base. It's handy when you misplace the handset, but it's not an intercom feature. You probably have a different model since you ask about calling between handsets. Some systems do provide this ability, but without your actual model number I can't give a definite answer or link to the manual for instructions. Here is VTech's manuals page, where you can find your specific model. The manual will explain how to use the intercom feature if it's available.

My vtech cordless reads out of range or no power at base, what is wrong?


Official solution to this issue:

Make sure base station serial number matches all handsets serial numbers.

If they don't match you will have to de-register the units.

De-register the base station by holding the find handset button for 10 secs or until the In Use light illuminates, release the button and then tap it once more. You should hear a short beep followed by a longer beep.

Press Menu Select and the press the following without pause - *7890#
You should now see Test Base at the top of the screen press the Vol up button until Test Handset is present.
Press Menu/Select and you should see SW Version displayed. Press Vol up button until you see regstr clear, then press Menu Select and then Menu Select again.

At the handset remove the battery for 15 secs and then place the battery back into the handset. You should see 1. Place handset ... 2. press # on the handset screen. DO NOT FOLLOW THE ON SCREEN DIRECTIONS.

Next place the Handset on the base station and press the find handset button for 4 secs until the In Use light shows up. Remove the handset and press the # button.

Your handset should now display Handset 1. You can do all the other handsets the same way.

Problems with C110 & A110 Vtech Mirage Dect Home phones


Have strangely got the same problem - about the same time you posted this, but intermitently. I have isolated that the problem is in fact the handset itself, not the base unit. I eliminated a problem with the base unit by a) registering a different DECT phone to it. - The base still works fine. b) Leaving the handset switched off for an hour or so (press and hold the "OK" botton to switch off / on); then whislt it was working, registering the handset to a different base (Base 2). And guess what, after 30 mins the "BASE 2" message started flashing on the faulty handset.
So, if you already have an A110 extension handset, make sure it's also registered to base 1 and maybe try to get just the handset repaired via VTECH. (or just buy a new handset if they are available).

Not Registered Problem


I had the same problem and I JUST fixed it! First, unplug the power to the main base (answering machine) for 20 seconds. Plus it back in. Put the phone that says "not registered" in the main answering machine. It will say "press the find handset for 4 seconds". Do that. It will run thru a series of stuff and will find the handset.
