Question about Lincoln Welding Tools

SP-250 power supply problem

I have a mig welder that after years of great service, started malfunctioning. Upon contacting, the wire immediately sticks to contact tip, and refuses to weld. I have changed tips, liners, and set tension on wheel. I have checked the voltage at electrode, and momentarily have 40v, then it drops to selected voltage. I have checked the primary wiring, capacitor bank, scr and diode and have found nothing out order. I don't know what to do next, any suggestions would be much appricated. Regards, Paul

When you pull the trigger the wire should feed imediately, if it dosn't then this will give you the problem. first check the clutch on the wire spool, this is in the centre post that the spool goes on the nut/screw should allow the wire spool to turn easly without tention,
if the spool runs on adjust the cluch. Check the shaft that the rollers are atached they should be held with key-way to stop them slipping, re-adjust the WFS ensure the wire feeds fast or slow as you rotate the WFS control and ensure the wire feeds instantly, lastly make shore the rollers are correct: the right size

I have a craftsman 20511 mig welder it will start welding without pushing trigger

Elmer, If you remove the gun assembly from the machine, if the machine is now not feeding wire, the problem is most likely the gun trigger is faulty. The switch contacts heat up and start sticking over time. If able too disassemble and clean trigger contacts. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Replace your contact tip on the end of the mig gun

Sounds like youve arced it out and the wire is stuck in the end of the contact tip but steel feeding possibly spitting wire out of the drive roll like we like to say birds nest

I have a lincoln sp-135t mig welder. while i was welding it started to just blow gas and i could weld with out pulling the trigger. also when the welder is plugged in but turned off the unit is still...

Contacts of the main contact relay "CR-1" are likely fused together completing the circuit. Otherwise the trigger switch is fused closed.

The main contactor can sometimes be released, then dressing the contacts with a small point file (Small mill ******* about 1/4 inch wide and 1/16 inch thick.

Otherwise locating a contactor/relay of a suitable current rating with a control voltage/coil rating of 24 volts.

I have a clarke 100E MK2 gas mig. Will I get a better weld by using a flux core wire in conjuntion with the gas or is this just overkill?

It's redundant if the wire is fluxcore, gas does not help here. BUT if you use a DUALSHIELD wire then the quality of the welds are outstanding, even if you use pure CO2 gas.
Best Dualshield wire out there is ESAB's 710X and it is not expensive.
Have a great weekend.

I am using flux core wire. The wire comes out. I

Is your grab rollers tight? Is it a new liner in the lead? If you are using .035 wire you can use a .045 tip. I generally use one size larger then what is required. You have a lot less problems that way. When you use flux core wire on most wirefeeds you have to reverse your positive and negative leads inside of the welder I assume you did that? If there is any moisture inside of the liner it can stick because it is grounding out when you start to weld.

Flux wire on Dual Mig Welder not feeding.

Change the contact tip. This is the most common problem. The tip gets burned and keeps the wire from feeding. You should always have extra tips on hand.

Welder not welding

The contact tip is the main source of power, if the tip is bigger than the wire then you will not get a proper conection, the earth clamp is a essential part of the system make sure you have a good earth and all the conections are tight
