SOURCE: Maytag Washer: How to Remove Tub

Under the agitator is a flat nut with notches in it. this nut requires a spanner wrench that will fit into the notches. You can use a large channel lock plier. rotate the nut counter-clockwise. under the nut will be a seal. remove the nut and the seal and pull up on the inner tub. to replace you'll need to replace the seal. if the nut isn't too chopped up, use this to refasten the tub.

SOURCE: Removing Tub from Maytag Atlantis Washer

I do believe that when you remove the four bolts, it should come out. Sometimes you have to use a little force and shimmy left to right to get it to break loose (no hammers please) especially if you have a lot of scum build-up from soap. They can really be a bear sometimes to remove. Maybe put your foot in the bottom of the tub and hit it on both sides to work it free. Good Luck!!! Jim

SOURCE: Maytag Atlantis loud screech when it brakes the spin cycle.

Hi Scott,
The brake has dust on it from wear. It is at the base of the machine inside the center were the base of the gear case rests. The brake is easy to fix with one catch. There is a tension spring hold it together, never mind the 5/16 hex screws attaching it, there is 200 pounds of pressure there.
Parts 16 to 23 are causing your problem. You need parts 35-2948, 21001161 and 35-2018 which are numbers 21, 22 and 23. While your there tell them you need a spring compressor for this job. Make sure after removing 24 that the compressor is fitted to the shaft and that it lines up to the notch in the shaft so your retention pin holds the spring until you can loosen the stator(23) from the brake, 22.

Remove maytag inner tub

Remove top cover, take out the bolt remove the small cover to expose the plate with several screws, remove the screws and lift the inner tub up. Usually this requires two people to get the tub up and out as it is very hard to pull up as it kind of sticks to the shaft

Leaking from bottom

Sounds like the tub seal. My MAV2755AWW (Maytag Atlantis top loader) is doing the same thing right now. Here is the solution I found: http://www.applianceaid.com/washer-tub-seal-replacement.php.

Caution: You'll need some tools, like a spanner wrench for your model...order this now of you plan to do this work yourself. You can find it for 15 dollars online, but if you go to Maytag, it can cost you upward of 90 dollars. You can get a tub seal kit for about 60 dollars. The cost for a repair tech to do this job was almost $300...gauge the $75 you going to spend plus the hours of work if you don't know what you're doing, against this cost. Good luck!

My maytag atlantis cycles but wont spin out. It spins slowly then shuts off but leaves wet clothes and water in tub.

First determine whether all the water is pumping out before it goes into spin. If not, check the pump and drain. If its not spinning fast enough with an empty tub check that there isnt any article of clothing caught between the inner and outer tubs or tub top ring. If thats ok check the clutch by turning the main drive pulley CCW. Substantial drag should be felt before the basket overcomes momentum and begins to turn. There is no repair for the clutch on this machine. The transmission must be replaced.

Tub won't empty

could be a sock or other bit of clothing has gone over the tub rim and is floating in the outer collection tub and blocking the drain outlet hole at the bottom.this is a common fault if the gap between the tub and the casing is apprecially bigger than normal or you are overloading and forcing small objects into the outer tub on the spin cycle.
Check also for blocked pump and drain filter.
Hope this helps

Leaking from bottom I think there is a hole in drum?

Not likely that there is a hole in the tub. The likely possibilities are a bad seal in the tub, a disconnected hose to the load size switch, or a leak in the drain hose or pump. Pull the front off and look for the leak.

Maytag Atlantis MAV6257AWW

I have a Maytag Atlantis MAV6257AWW. I need to replace the transmission. So I removed all four screws from the inner tub but I couldnt get the inner tub pull out, it's stuck.

From what I read on here, the seal nut doesn't have to be remove in order to remove the inner tub.

I tried every, I even hammer the shaft down from the inside of the tub but still no luck. Can someone help, thanks.
