How can I get the brush roller to work

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

First things first, unplug your vacuum and turn it over. Check your brush roll for any large amount of debris. This usually comes in the form of carpet fibers, or hair strands wrapped around the brush roll. Try manually rotating the brush roll, this will help unclog any hidden debris.

Take off your vacuums bottom plate, this is usually held on by two screws on opposing sides of the bottom of your vacuum. Remove the brush roll and examine the belt to see if it is applying tension to the brush roll. If the belt is loose this would cause the brush roll to not work properly.

What's the quality of the bristles on the roll? If they look worn down, or loose then it's time to replace the brush roll itself.

What should I check to trouble shoot a Eureka 6865 smart vac making very loud whirring noise? Filter and bag are clean. Hose is unblocked.

Hi, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

I'd say at this point if you've checked your bag, filter and hoses it may be time to check your brush roll and belt. These two fast moving parts, when loose, damaged or just in need of replacement may occasionally give off an odd noise.

Turn the power wand over to expose the base plate that covers the brush roller. The power wand can get dirty and collect debris in the brush roller over time. The grinding noise may be something stuck in the brush roller, causing it to hit the edges when the vacuum is operating. Removing obstructions and cleaning dirt and debris collected over time should allow the vacuum to operate quieter. Unscrew the base plate cover with a Phillips head screwdriver. Lift out the brush roller and belt. Cut away any obstructions, such as string, hair or rubber bands, from the brush roller. Wipe the brush roller and belt with a damp rag to remove any dirt and allow them to air-dry. Wipe down the brush roller housing and inside the base plate with the damp rag. Any noticeable difference now once it's dried and turned on?

Ow do I know if a vacuum belt has gone bad

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Maintaining your belts is crucial to keep your unit working properly. Your unit's belts connect to the roller brush and makes the roller turn to collect any debris. After regular usage, belts will stretch our, lessening the tension on the roller brush. Less tension decreases the brush roller's turn rate and speed, what means you will probably see more debris left behind.

If you notice your unit's roller brush not spinning properly, experience loss of suction or notice more debris left behind after using your unit, your belts may need to be replaced. Belts are recommended to be replaced every 3 to 6 months.

Why the Dyson dc 41 roller brush will not turn?

Try these steps:
  • Check the button that turns off the roller brush to make sure you didn't press it by accident.
  • Unplug the vacuum and clear pet hair and other debris off the roller brush. It may stop as a safety feature if the roller brush is too restricted.
  • Make sure the belt to the roller brush is placed correctly and not broken.
  • Press the roller brush reset button. It may be located on the side of the vacuum's head, or inside the handle. The switch may need to be replaced if it's defective.
  • The roller brush is disabled while the handle is in the upright position, so tilt the handle backwards while testing the roller brush.
I hope that helps you!

Brush not turnning

The brush roller is driven by a belt installed on the motor shaft. The belt could be broken or off the shaft. The brush roller could be clogged inside the end caps with debris which prevents rotation. To solve the debris problem, it will be necessary to remove the belt from the motor shaft, then note the orientation of the end caps and remove the brush roller. Next, remove one end cap and check for clogging material. Remove the material. Slide the brush roller shaft away from the end of the brush roller to check for clogging material at the opposite end. Remove the material. Slide the brush roller shaft back into position and reinstall the end cap. Reinstall the brush roller in the correct position. Reinstall the belt. Check for proper rotation of the brush roller.

My Hoover makes louder noise when the brushroll is on. I just cleaned but no result.

What kind of Hoover is this? There are a few things that will cause excessive noise and vibration such as a worn belt, the wrong belt, damaged end caps, damaged brush roll housing and worn bearings. Inspect the brush roll area. Remove the belt, if you have a spare, check the size. If it's more than 6 months old, replace the belt. Spin the brush roll in the housing, does it spin free or hesitate or not turn at all? If it spins with effort there could be debris under the end caps; if one end cap will not turn there is enough debris to cause the end cap to internally melt to the roller. If you cannot turn the brush roll by hand, replacement is your best solution. You should also inspect the housing where the roller spins, specifically where the end caps sit; look for damage to the slots in the plastic, it the roller will not sit snug this could cause enough vibration to make the sound you're hearing.

The belt on my Dyson is making a terrible loud grinding sound after I removed the brush roller.

The sound is the clutch mechanism. That is a safety feature. It sounds like you have trapped the belt when you reinstalled it. If not, the brush roller bearings may be seized?
Take it apart again, spin the brush roller in your hand. Make sure it is free. When you reassemble it, before you refit the sole plate, turn the brush a few times with your fingers to make sure the belt finds its home on the roller. Only then refit the sole plate. Turn it again when fitted before you run it to make sure the brush is turning freely.
Then, make sure the clutch is engaged, see this article for more on clutches: DC14 clutch and brush roller

Brushes will not turn . I put new belts and stil not working

Since you've replaced the belt, I believe that the roller is not functioning dues to debris or hair or bad bearings. See if you can turn the brush with your hand using moderate pressure. If not you need to remove the roller bar and see if there is anything like hair or string keeping it from spinning (sometimes you can remove the debris without removing the roller). If the bearings are frozen, you can spray them with a lubricant and try to free them up. If this fails, then you will need to get a new roller. I would also make sure that your filter is clean as this will cause the brushes not to turn on some vacuums although I don't believe yours is one of them. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Power on. Roller brush will not turn. Belt is not

Hello,

Sometimes the belt can stretch and cause the to not turn. If this is the case, the belt will have to be replaced. Also, make sure the roller brush is free of any debris.

Here is a link to a site with illustrations that will guide you to change belt and/or access inside of your machine.

Hope this helps.
