I have a similar problem. It wuoldn't start, charge or connect to my PC. Hitting mode/reset at the same time follwed by the on button got it to start, but did not fix the other two problems.

My 205 will not start either. I bought a new cradle thinking it was bad but it still does not work. Turns on fine but will not charge nor will it talk to my computer. Have had it over a year with no problems and now it just has stopped recharging. I have no solution.

I have the same problem, too.  Garmin was fine yesterday, was charged full in the cradle connected to the computer - today - nothing.  Can't get it to turn on or anything.  Wondering if the lithium battery needs to be replaced?  I guess you have to send it back for that?

Hey everyone. Just called Garmin and got it fixed. Sometimes the forerunner goes into power saver mode and needs to be reset

1. Hook up the usb cable and docking station to the computer.
2. Next, hook up your forerunner to the Docking station - It should pop up saying battery charging in progress
3. Leave it all hooked up and Hold the Mode and Lap/Reset Button together for 15 seconds - screen should go blank.
4. Let both go - should pop back up saying battery charging in progress.
5. Let Charge 20 minutes and it should be good to go.

Hope this helps!!!

I had the same problem, the unit face was a bit loose and when I pressed the edges down while the unit was on the charging cradle, the charging notice appeared. But when I released the edges, the charging stopped. So I opened up the unit, cleaned the edges the super-glued the face back on. The Garmin charges fine now.

The face is easy to pry off, I think the plastic housing gets distorted over time and the top face doesn't seat very well. But super-glue worked well in this case, hopefully it'll last.

Garmin 295 forerunner will not turn on

Hello,

Did you mean the Forerunner 205?
It is most likely that the battery has died in the unit or there may be a problem with the battery charger.
The internal battery in the Forerunner 205 is not user replaceable and the unit would need to go back to a Garmin repair for replacement.
Please call Garmin Tech Support for assistance.

Garmin forerunner 205 will not stay OFF and none of the buttons respond.

Yes you can restore your data from the TC after a hard reset. You have to go thtrough the setup menu like chose which language etc first.
Well I have exactly the same problem as you and a hard reset did not work either ...
Upgrading / downgrading the firmware also did not work.... the thing keeps on switching itself on regardless....
Do you have found out something more in the mean time?

Yesterday i download the forerunner 205 software from the garmin website. after i connect my unit using usb to the computer, my garmin won,t power on immediately. i tried to reset it (soft and hard reset)...

Did you install the software correctly? Because such errors appear usually when the update/upgrade is not finisher or was not done in a proper manner.
If possible try to verify the device on another computer (a friend's) to see if the same problem appear.
If the problem persists I'd say you've burned out your battery (hope not the hole Forerunner...!).

My forerunner 205 was charging just fine until I pressed the power button. The screen went blank and I cannot turn it on. Does this mean the battery needs to be replaced. If so, how does one go about...

Probably it is not due to the battery.

Your device is crashed. Perform soft reset :
press & hold mode plus lap/reset keys for 10 seconds, release then press start long enough until device starts.

Garmin Forerunner 305 usb cable won't be read

The problem is probably not with the USB cable if the GPS wont even turn on. The older firmware of the Forerunner 205 and 305 have a problem with locking up. This causes the Forerunner to look completely dead. There is a reset procedure: push the mode and reset button at the same time and then let go and hit the power on button. If it powers on that is the problem. Go to the Garmin site and load the newest rev. of firmware into the Forerunner. Fixed mine and a few friends with the same problem.

I do however have a cable problem. Sometimes my PC will come up with unrecognized USB device and my 305 wont talk to the PC, it does charge. It is the cable or dock for sure, because I have tried a different cable/dock and the 305 has no problem. This is the reason I ended up here. I hope the lock fix works for those with the above problem.
