Question about Dell Inspiron 1150 Latitude D600 14.1 LCD Display-LP141X14 CD-ROM Drive
Hi, my dell inspiron wont boot up, i was half way into installing win xp and the screen went blank and all the led's lit up left it for 10 mins then decided 2 turn it off after nothing else happened.
tried to reboot and got the power light and could hear the hard drive start up and the cpu fan start but nothing on screen just blank then after 8-10 secs it just turns off!
i have tried leaving it for 12 hours with no power to see if bios resets but nothing and tried rebooting with xp disk and it seems as though it is reading the disk but then 8-10 secs and it turns itself off!!!!
really frustrated and in need of help, any ideas before i turn it into scrap?
yours thankfully duncan
Try connecting it to an external monitor.
When you do, as soon as you press the power button to turn on the laptop, close the laptop lid - as this forces the laptop to display on an external monitor.
If this works, then it means the laptop screen is bad.
If it doesn't, the most likely cause would be that the laptop video card went bad.
For a while, some older Dell laptops with high-end nVidia graphics cards tended to die suddenly.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The fans on this unit are thermostatically controlled and only turn on when the predefined processor temperature is reached, so upon turning the unit on It will spin up too full speed and then seem to shut down until it is needed.
If you are getting no beep tones and since you have already tested your memory, I am forced to assume that either your processor has retired or your cmos is wrong, Since you sound like you have already opened the unit then locate the clear cmos jumper/switch on the board and clear your cmos which will reset to defaults.....if you still have the same problem then I reccomend trying a different processor.

Call Dell if under warranty. Start shopping for a replacement hdd if outside of warranty. You'll need
your OS disks that came with computer (hopefully). If you don't have OS/recovery disks, you can get
them from Dell or even using somebody elses (match version with sticker on your laptop).
Check the hdd connection underneath laptop - make sure cable is not loose, etc.
Probably safe to say your data is gone unless you're willing to spend $$.

SOURCE: Someone reset my password
If you have forgotten your BIOS or Hard Drive Password for this model, there is a master code that you can obtain from Dell Support. Simply call, Email, or use Online Chat from http://support.dell.com and give them your Service Tag, and they can help your out from there. If it is a Windows profile password you have forgotton, try accessing the Administrator account from Safe Mode, and remove the password for the user account locked out.

Disconnect the battery, unplug it, then open it up. There should be a small round battery called the CMOS battery somewhere in there. Pull that out. Then plug your computer in and boot it up without the CMOS battery. It should say password disabled. Turn it off, disconnect it, put it back together, and you're good to go.
