My T39 when first switched on sometimes says "Searching" for long periods before connecting up with my service provider. Sometimes upto a couple of hours, but normally between 10 seconds and about 3 minuites. Its not the service provider as I can take the SIM card out of the T39 and put it in my Nokia 8210 and I get service straight away, putting SIM card back in T39 and it takes forever searching again. It only seems to happen when the phone is not on the move between cells, but that maybe a red herring. It is one of the early releases, has anybody else had this problem? At the moment I leave it switched on 24/7 so I don't get the problem, but I would like an answer please, thanks.
I spoke to Vodafone about the "searching" problem and they say because they do not sell the Ericsson T39 they cannot/have not had any experience of this problem. Heres another one for you all, haven't tried it recently, but I was sent a copy of SIM Card Manager (its an external SIM Card reader that plugs into the serial port on a PC, nothing to do with Ericsson) by Vodafone to enable me to edit SIM Card phone numbers etc (I got this just before my T39 arrived). If you use this device, and put the SIM card back into the Ericsson, the phone locks up. Have not used it since, but the only way I could get it to work was to put the SIM card back into my old 8210, edit a phone number, put the SIM card back into my T39 and it would start working again. Sorry, but I cannot for the life of me remember what the T39 used to say when it locked up. I am not Mobile Phone Technical but this would indicate to me that perhaps the Ericsson is not using the "Standard" data format for storing information on the SIM card, so that any card edited by another device corrupts the data as far as the Ericsson is concerned, or am I completly off the mark?
the radio reciever end of your t39 is not working. have it checked with a ericsson service point.

I've had the same problem with my T39m here in Norway (Telenor). Heard from a number of other Norwegians reporting the same problem with Telenor, but not with NetCom (the other carrier here in Norway). Could it be a odd combination of T39 and specific base station brands. I'm guessing here :-).
Another symptom is that while the phone appears as online you'll discover (cause others tell you) that's it's actually offline with no calls or messages coming true for a longer period of time. Really annoying. I've had this problem with SW R2D and R2K. Recently upgraded to R2M and have not yet experienced, but while I have no way of reproducing this error it's too early to state that the problem is solved. Have heard of others having this problem with R2M.
You can imagine how difficult it is to have anyone take the responsibility for this one. The carrier says "nope, it's a phone thing since your SIM is OK in another phone" while Ericsson says "if it works with another carrier, it has to be the carrier". When I, on the top of this, can't reproduce this error, it's a big mess.
Please let me know if any of you have heard this as a confirmed bug from Ericsson and when it will possibly be fixed. Being offline while appearing online is the _one_ bug I cannot live with in my phone as I rely on being available in connection with my work. :-(

It should not be doing that. Normally the phone will log on to the network as it is booting up. Have you tried another carrier's sim card?
