Thank you. I've checked the processor kompatibility, and connections, it' s ok. The power supply is 300W, it's ok I supose - I've checked with an other PC. Video card must be ok, it was working earlier. I have a multimeter to measure voltages, but i don't know what to measure and where. Maybe somebody could direct me to a good website for these kind of informations.

Phoenixbios d686 for 017578387 1998

Hello visit the mainboards home page, for download of the bios file.

Flashing the bios with a wrong one, WILL destroy the mainboard.

And don`t upgrade the bios when the system is running fine.

Good luck

I'm trying to upgrade memory in my PC. It uses a KV-80 motherboard but doesn't work if I insert two 1GB memory strips

It sounds like you've got a bad memory module, the second 1GB that you're trying to put in. Try replacing your good 1GB module with this new one and see if it reacts the same way.
I looked up your MB manual and it does say it's rated for 2 x 1GB modules.

A slight possibility is that you're trying to put 240 pin memory in the Dimm slot, instead of 184, but that's unlikely because the notch doesn't line up. Another one, also unlikely is that you're trying to put in DDR266 or 333 when your front side bus is running at DDR400 speed.

It's also extremely rare, but you may have to change your settings in the BIOS to get it to recognize the new module. Although that almost never sets off the "emergency siren".

When I updated to 2GB for my 754 motherboard, I bought 2 brand new modules that turned out to be both bad.

Nope, doesn't work. Obviously Shuttle is after the almighty $$$$$, and doesn't want to support their motherboards, or people who buy them.

Note to self; AVOID Shuttle computers like the PLAGUE.

I need to replace my shuttle sb81p motherboard but dont know where to buy the exact one the rest of the pc is fine thanks in advance.

This is a custom board, you could get one only directly from Shuttle (with very little chances of success since they discontinued this model 4 years ago) or from an site dealing in second-hand items.

Keyboard will not type. Function keys work when I boot up plus keyboard works if I attached to my laptop. It is plugged into a USB port..

In your BIOS, check your security settings and if for some strange reason your keyboard is not enabled upon startup, enable it. Otherwise it could be a faulty keyboard.

Re-check all connection.
If you are skilled, disconnect all perifericals, except: MB, CPU, RAM, VGA (if not integrated), keyboarda and restart your PC whit this minimal ocnfiguration.
