How to make partition of a 550 GB SATA internal harddisk

That would be up to you, and how you want to manage space. Creating a partition for C may leave you with limitations down the line (space wise). The other thing is defrag. A large partition can take a long time to defrag. In this case there is no right or wrong answer.

If you're using the original XP version it wasn't able to format the correct size of the hard drives. You need to find a version with Service Pack 2 and boot off that CD in order to format the correct size of the drives. You could also boot off a Vista installation CD and format the correct size.

External Segate 200 GB SATA Hardisk (USB 2.0 connection to PC)

I appears the volume may have been corrupted. YOu should run data recovery on the drive if you need any of the content. If not reformatting the drive, should restore it. If the contents are not important, or you have it backed up, go ahead and connect it to the MACINTOSH and format it for MS-DOS.

Unless it is physically damaged ( clicking, beeping, knocking ) it shoud be usable.

Hope this helps.
