Before you start doing anything you should download your drivers from acer's web site. Save them on a cd or a flash drive. Once you put your operating system CD (xp, vista, 98, 2000 doesn't really matter) restart your laptop. It will prompt you with "press any key to start from CD" and you press enter or space bar. This will take you to setup screen. The setup will ask you what you want to do. Repair, or install. You need to select install. Next will be the partition setup. If you want to divide your hard drive two seperate pieces in example you have 80 G hard drive and you can set it up as C drive 40 G and D drive 40 G, you need to do it in this section. If not just follow the instructions. It'll also ask you if you want to delete the partition, I would suggest to delete it. It'll give you a fresh start. Then it'll tell you if you delet the partition you will loose all the documents in your hard drive which is your goal anyways. After you delete the partition it will format the hard drive (it has to) and will install all your operating system components. When its done this is what you need to do. Right click on my computer and click on properties. On the general tab click on device manager. When device manager opens up you will see some hardware devices with a yellow question mark beside it. Those are the ones that you need to install drivers for. That's why we wanted to create that driver CD or Flash drive. Once you intall the necessary driver, you are good to go. If you have any questions let me know, I'll walk you through.

I bought recently an asus p7h55-m with windows7 home edition. Can I install windows xp instead? is it compatible with windows xp proffesional? Do I need to disinstall windows 7 before I do this? Thank...

Yes, you can install Windows XP on it. If you wish to get rid of Win7 and only have Windows XP, just insert your WinXP disk and restart the computer. It will get you to the Windows XP installation setup. You will be able to choose between a few options including FORMAT. This is what you need to do.
It will give you the choice to format a certain partition letter. By default windows would be C and you would only have one partition, but some stores pre-install things and create more than one. It's good measure to format all of them. When that's done you will be able to install windows xp normally. Just follow the instructions.

If you wish to keep both windows, you will need to create a new partition on which to install winxp. It is a bit more complicated but you can do it via Disk Management. Open the Start Menu and type in Disk Management. You should see your hard drive. Normally there would only be C, but if you bought it in a shop there might be more than one. You're going to right click the main one and select shrink volume. Shrink it to the size you want, keep in mind windows will need about 5 GB. Once that's done the left over volume should be unallocated space. Right click that and select New Partition. Follow the instructions, select Primary Drive, specify the size again, once you get to formatting options you can either format now or before installing XP (as per my above instructions).
Select NTFS as the file type. You should be all set, read my first instructions.

Also note that if you have two windows, you'll get the choice to which to boot everytime you start your computer. Good luck!

Can't format disk. I do have laptop Gericom and restore system CD come along with it, but when set up new system from CD does not give me an option to format disk as usual with OS CD. After setting up...

You will need to format the disk before trying to install the OS. Download and burn something like Hyrems or the Ultimate boot disk or GParted. and use the partition tools to re-partition the hard disk and format it.

Hope this helps,
