There are several things you need to check: Have you been able to connect in the past? If so, what has changed. If it is the recent past, do a system restore back to when it worked. Is the access point working? In other words, is there a wireless network nearby to connect to? Is your wireless adapter turned on--on the computer? Many times people inadvertently turn the adapter off. It's most likely turned on with a Fn-special function key combo. Some computers have an actual switch. If you have a wireless adapter turned on and you can see a wireless connection, then all you should need to do is tell the computer to connect and give the proper pass code.
Locate the wireless switch and turn it on? if it is on you might need to reset the modem from your service provider. Just go and hit the reset button on the modem or turn it off completely. Power it up again and make sure that the switch is turned on if you have one for this lap top some are automatic.
The switch is usually located on the left or right front of the lap top housing in the front or on the keypad. You may have to push the FN key if the key is blue highlighted. Hit FN and press the wireless key if applicable. Make sure all is on and switched then reset the wireless modem or connection.
It would help to know what your lap top brand is? they are mainly located in the front area or the back or it is determined by the connection and there is not one to be found. Go to your lap top model online and see the information on it. John
For your Everex Everex StepNote VA4103M, the wireless switch is:
Function + F2
The Function button is located at the bottom-left portion of the keyboard (is "Fn" in blue letters. Depress and hold "Fn" and then press "F2" (top of keyboard). You will notice that the wireless on/off light will then turn on (located by your right wrist as you type).
There will be a lapse in network communications as your laptop switches from LAN to Wireless, presumming that you have a Wireless access point in the area with DHCP enabled. If it doesn't work at all when unplugged from the ethernet, you may want to verify that your Wireless is turned on, and connecting to your network using the Wireless Network Configurator included with windows xp and above
