Philips GoGear SA6045/97 connection with pc problem.
I recently formatted my pc. my friend, who has a pc shop, did the job. but he installed the windows xp sp2 professional from his own copy. now when i connect my GoGear, first comes- usb data device found. then after 3-4 min comes- your device may not work properly. when i checked in my computer window, it was not shown in any section. previously, before i formatted, the device was working properly & was shown in 'other' section of my computer with name media player (even without installing any file from the provided installation cd). but now its not the case. when i tried to install from cd, 1st the 'device manager for GoGear' installation window came. then winows media player 11 installation started. then at validation window, error came, you are using a pirated version. then the whole process stopped. same happens on each re-install. please help...

You need to get the product key for Windows from your friend. The days when you can just load an OS from any CD an unlimited number of times is over. Microsoft Genuine Validation requires that you have a Product Key, and you STILL may have to call Microsoft to validate your copy, if Microsoft registers that an OS has been loaded from a single CD too many times.

Your GoGear is likely in MTP connection mode, which requires proprietary drivers to connect. If you are trying to connect it as a standard mass storage device, switch the player to MSC connection mode. To do this, select "PC connection preference" in the Settings menu.
As an alternative, I recommend using the the Philips Songbird software that came with the device. This software is useful for automatically converting most media files to GoGear friendly format during synchronization. And, installing this software will also install drivers necessary for connecting the device in MTP connection mode. More importantly, when your corruption prone GoGear gets the familiar "file system error" screen, the software can be used to repair it.
Bailman, Try running the installation CD or grabbing the software for the GoGear from the Philips website. If you have already done that, then follow the FAQ instructions for Player is not recognized by PC on FAQ of Philips website. Otherwise, perform Repair (warning - this will delete all songs from your computer): 1) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) - if you don't see it, then re-run the installation CD or grab the "Device/Firmware Manager" from the Philips website 2) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button 3) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off (if you haven't done so already) - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new
I'm not sure about the Memory Format Error, but you are going to need the software to not only recharge the player, but put music on it as well. To turn it on you have to hold down the play button until you see a little "Philips" logo pop up on it. I looked into downloading the upgrade to see if it could recharge that way, but it seems to be only what it says it is; an upgrade. I suggest you ask your husband's friend for the software disk.
