You have three options. 1 take it to a local repair shop . cost will vary, average prices 50.00-80.00 . 2 find out the make and model of your drive and buy one on ebay 30.00-40.00 then goto find a youtube video and replace the pc board from your new drive with your old drives pc board . this always works. 3 send it to Microsoft cost 100.00 + shipping 3 week wait.
You have two unrelated issue's. First the lasers weak and unable to increase to sufficient brightness to read duel layer disk ( GAMES) The laser will need to be replaced. second ,if your getting ring type scratches then the drive is doing what's called over focus . pushing the lens assembly in to the disk as it's spinning.
Recommendation is to have the whole drive replaced and swap out the P.C. board to the new drive.
if the disk is still spinning when the tray open causing scratches then there is a communication error from the C.P.U. to the drive this will require you to have the C.P.U. re-flowed to remedy this problem.
The motor in the dvd drive isn't spinning properly and the disk doesn't end up spinning so the laser cannot read the disk making the console believe there isn't a disk in there. So what you can do is open the console and then the dvd drive (Voids Your Warranty) and clean the motor with rubbing alcohol and some qtips or send it to MS and have it fixed. Alex
