Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console

1 Answer

Put in a UMD and the PSP shuts off

I just replaced the UMD hardware in my PSP as it was not reading anything. After reassembly, the PSP turns on and works fine until you insert a UMD then it shuts off. I pulled it all apart again to check that it was all assembled correctly, and found nothing wrong visually. I reassembled the PSP and still have the same problem.

What does that have to do with anything that I described? If you have never torn a psp apart and do not know what you are talking about, please do not waste my time with a rediculous reply.

the umd drive must be dying. You can replace the und drive.

One trick you can try is to put a little water on a cotton swab and clean the the laser. It just inside the psp where you put the umd drive. also try to move the laser all the way to the inside

Umd keeps reading

the umd drive is approaching its end of the life. you might need to buy http://www.consolezombie.com/store/slim-replacement-drive-laser-assembly-p-34.html and replace your umd drive. This is what i just did to my psp-2001.

PS: The above link is only for PSP-200x (slim version of PSP)

Psp always read from umd, making it hang

Hi! I incounter this problem as well even without UMD its still loading and even I disable auto-start UMD still same so I tried reflashing the software but still same problem so I discover the solution before you turn-on your PSP try to open your UMD cover you'll see it will load faster then close again the cover once you see the battery and clock icon... The problem that causing this is the switch inside the UMD possible its stock-up or spoiled already!

When i put games in my sons sony psp it doesnt read them

You should reformat the psp memory stick if the game is copied, but for the UMD, for M33 versions firmware, you press Select on your psp and select UMD instead of memory stick. You should press the select on other parts of your selections on your psp. Do not press other things such as saved data utility, etc.

Loud Clicking noise and won't read UMD

I think the it is possible your UMD case is cracked and the clear part is pressing down on the disc inside. Check and pull the clear part of the case from the media disc.
